Publisher's Summary

When two of his American employees were held hostage in a heavily guarded prison fortress in Iran, one man took matters into his own hands: American businessman H. Ross Perot. His team consisted of a group of volunteers from the executive ranks of his corporation, hand-picked and trained by a retired Green Beret officer. To free the imprisoned Americans, they would face incalculable odds on a mission that only true heroes would have dared.

    "Fascinating"

I voted for Mr. Perot for President and have often wondered how different things would be today had he somehow won. Follett is a great story teller and manages to turn a complicated tale with too many characters into a great thriller.

"Story is amazing but narration is terrible"

This could quite possibly be the worst narration in the history of audiobooks. Any high school media class in the country could have produced and delivered a better narration experience. What a shame to waste such an amazing true story on complete and total lack of attention to detail and focus on the project. I would ask for a refund if it wasn't part of my subscription.

Ken Follett is a superb story teller, and this one is all true! The tag team narration of the audio book is excellent, and is highly recommended.

    "Narration read too fast"

The narrators read too fast and slowing down the playback possessed a near warble so I went back to the 1.00 playback speed.

    "To Hear The Story- Invaluable"

Always found it difficult to visually read even the finest book. Learning more about our high school hero, Pat Sculley, made all the difference to listen, hear and learn.

    "Heroes all"

This story is so amazing, both because of Follett's treatment of it and because it is true. I remember these events unfolding and being so in awe of Ross Perot's heroism in going to rescue these men. I am also in awe of the people who put themselves on the line in order to do it. In the end, the rescue was so, well, mundane and ordinary. No, that is not quite right. It was so un-violent. No, not quite it either. So well done and unexpected that so much of the planning that went into it was never even used. I like that. What a great way to go! Everyone involved was a hero in one way or another.

    "Not Ken Follett"

I love Ken Follett's writing , BUT this book was a huge disappointment. The story is weak and drawn out with inconsequential fluffing of the characters. I am glad the Americans were rescued, but the story was dull. I hope Mr. Pero paid well to have his ego massaged.

"Great story. Narrators voices fitting. The read speed?"

I thought the story was great, engaging and informative. The narrators' voices were pleasant and fitting. The speed that they read the story was ridiculous. I had to check twice to ensure that I had not accidentally increased the playback speed. I was sure when the book started that I had accident lay changed it to 1.5 or 2x normal playback. Took awhile but I got used to it. Otherwise a great read.

    "Book Bought by Ross Perot"

Clearly a book purchased by Ross Perot. This lacked the genuineness I typically enjoy of Follett. I feel like Follett lost his credibility as an objective author with this book.

    "Fascinating real life story"

The story itself was quite riveting. I was confused, however by the multiple readers as I could not see what their purpose was. One particular reader did not represent one particular character, and therefore there was no apparent connection between the readers. This was not a story I was aware of prior to listening to this book, and it's wonderful to know there are people in the world willing to go to such great links for their brothers and sisters.

    "Super fast reader"

The book was read with such haste it was completely ruined for both my wife and myself, this caused us to abandon listening to the book after a matter of minutes.
I would definately NOT recomend this book to any one.

    "Follett on Speed"
What would have made On Wings of Eagles better?

    A decent narrator

Would you ever listen to anything by Ken Follett again?

    Yes I enjoy his books

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Because the narrator reads far too quickly and gives the impression he want to get through this at pace

    Any additional comments?

This is the first time I have written any review but feel CHEATED by this poorly narrated book.

    "Ross Perot - respect!"

I was totally surprised that someone I new of, but not much about was such a brave and honourable guy. I hope it is true! Ken Follett does very little wrong for me and again I enjoyed his straight-forward approach and ability to keep the storyline interesting. Well worth a read.
