Publisher's Summary

"Ken Follett has done it once more...goes down with the ease and impact of a well-prepared martini." (New York Times Book Review)

His name was Feliks. He came to London to commit a murder that would change history. A master manipulator, he had many weapons at his command, but against him were ranged the whole of the English police, a brilliant and powerful lord, and the young Winston Churchill himself. These odds would have stopped any man in the world - except the man from St. Petersburg.

A Riveting Thriller

I was so mesmerized by this book, it was difficult to put down. Political intrigue, back door deals, classism in England, turmoil in Russia, the looming threat of War, and so much more is in this thriller. This book almost took on a life of its own as the story progressed. Ken Follett wrote a masterful tale. Richard Armitage was brilliant in his narration.

So glad I stuck with it

Wasn’t sure initially, but this turned out to be a great read. Follett is the best storyteller. Amazing imagination.

Couldn’t stop listening to this story!

Ken Follett is a masterful writer and Richard Armitage’s narration is simply the best! What a roller coaster of emotion. I highly recommend this book!

Good but..

Enjoyed the first half of this book, and the historical context was interesting. But as I plodded wearily to the climactic (and predictable) ending, I found myself increasingly annoyed with nearly all the characters, and I wished it would all just end, already! A bit overwrought for me.

Riveting historical fiction

The best Ken Follett novel ever - and I’ve read nearly all of them over the last 25 years. I missed this 1982 novel because it was just rereleased in the last year or two and newly narrated brilliantly by Richard Armitage. I’ve never read or listened to a better historical novel, and have spent the last 50 years as a student of literature theatre and film.

The ending......

Great plot....great set up......and although I enjoy Follet.....he's predictable when it comes to the relationship between men and women.

So....although I loved the storyline....the typical narratives of romance constrained how well this book could have been

draws you in every time !

I don't know how he does it ! He just draws you into the world of the story right from the very first chapter ! Its hard to imagine a better "story teller" than Ken Follett. I just adore listening to his books -- no matter the country or time period. I am amazed with each one,
