Publisher's summary

African Americans have played major roles in building the great American experience and building the history of the United States. From years of perpetual slavery to years of Jim Crow, African Americans have endured mutilations, genocide, lynching, fear, and intimidation and they are still standing today making America strong...from slavery to the White House.

Pleasant surprise

This book was better than I expected. In many history books, the author only examines superficially historical moments. In this book, however, I really liked how the author went deep into many key moments. For example, the author went in depth into Harper's Ferry, the Emancipation Proclamation and the strategy behind it, and other inflection points in African American History.

If you are looking to get a bit more out of a history book, consider this one.

I can see myself listening to this book again.
