Publisher's Summary

Have you ever wished your cat could talk to you? If so, allow my story to be your cautionary tale.

My aunt Lavender is in danger, and it's up to me and my reluctant familiar to save her.

Unfortunately, the sassy cat isn't big on the whole concept of teamwork.

With no idea where Lavender is and our leads in short supply, we turn to an archivist who might have the answers to our questions. But when he turns up dead under suspicious circumstances, our last glimmer of hope goes dark.

Unless...the secrets to my aunt's disappearance are tangled up in the famed archivist's sudden death. The police are quick to write it off as a tragic accident, leaving it up to Selene and I to crack the case and discover his link to Aunt Lavender.

I just hope we aren't too late.

Mean Girl Familiar, MIA Family, Dead End Leads

This second volume of the series continues with the intriguing disappearance of Cora's aunt Lavendar and soon the first lead that the characters have had in some time is found dead. The joke withe Selene the inherited familiar being "sassy" is getting pretty tired. Sarcasm is different than mean spirited and this cat feels actively antagonistic to Cora which isn't as enjoyable for me at least. I actually notice that I am more interested in the secondary characters or even absent characters (like Lavendar) than the main protagonist. I am curious about the overarching story of Lavendar and what is actually going on in regards to her absence and so am continuing the series for this reason as well as Amanda's excellent narration. This is an easy listen but again for me the Selene vs Cora thing feels a little played out and over done and took up too much of the story for me. Totally will not be an issue for others I am sure and some might enjoy that dynamic. I usually love Danielle for her humor and snark, but as I said for me this doesn't feel playful just unkind.

Whiny voice

Garrett wrote a wonderful story and Ronconi almost ruins it with her high pitched whiny voice. ugh!
The voice she does for Celine is her saving grace because it's funny and cute sounding.

Good Addition to the Series

I enjoyed this book, even though it was a slow start. Aunt Lavender's plight was much more intriguing than the murder or even Cora's personal relationships. This book read more like a first in series with all the time spent "setting the scene." I look forward to the next book that I hope spends more time on the Lavender dilemma.

Very entertaining

I have enjoyed this book and the previous one in this series. I appreciate the Cat espresso. The voice the reader uses for Selene brings a smile to me. Nothing too heavy just light hearted reading.

Abrupt Ending

The ending came too soon and didn’t tie into the prior chapters unfortunately. We’ll see how the remaining books in the series work out.

Fun story

It one of Danielle’s better series but still enjoyable. The cat is hard to deal with at times and the story is slow but overall still entertaining. Wish there was more magic and there seems to be a struggle for the reader to enjoy her love interest.

Fun Listen

I like the world the author has created. For the credit, I wish the books were longer and feel like they easily could be, either a small side mystery from the candle shop of more exploration of the personal life. I did seem to enjoy the first book more.
