Bewitching cozy mystery series

I actually reviewed the first four books of this series, but as I said before it was nice to return to Bijou Mer (which is also the setting of Ms. Johnson's Spells and Caramels). One of the things I look for in book series is personal growth of characters, and got it in spades in this series. All three of the main characters grow in major ways, and smaller growth in two of the secondary characters. I love that each book is self contained when it comes to the mystery, but builds on each other for interpersonal relationships. Each Mystery gets better and my favorite is the last story where the main characters get to meet the characters from the Spells and Caramels series, but done in a way that someone who has not read that series will still be able to understand and be entertained by their interactions.

I have said it before but I'll say it again, I really like that Ms. Johnson write fair mysteries, in that if you pay attention to the clues you can figure out the mysteries yourself but they aren't too easy.

I have only two minor quibbles about this series, one is that the hygiene of the main character, or lack thereof is sometimes a little too detailed, and occasionally her interpersonal skills are lacking and can drag scenes on for a little too long. But these are minor irritants in a really fun series.

As a audio book, I like the way the books are separated making it easy to remember which book you are on. I also enjoy the way Ms. Somerville reads, with distinct voices for each character.

I really enjoyed them and recommend you give them a try if you like cozy paranormal mysteries.

If you like cozy mysteries, snarky banter, villains, magic, shifters, and romance, Pet Psychic Magical Mysteries by Erin Johnson and narrated by her sister, Hannah Somerville (who by the way does an excellent job with all the various voices) this complete set is for you. Bravo, Erin!

Annoying reader

The stories themselves were enjoyable, but I stopped midway through book 4 because I couldn’t take the reader anymore. I would’ve been better off if I got them on Kindle for reading.

Terrible narration

The narrator's excessive inflection at the end of every phrase was absolutely annoying. She did ok with the other character voices but couldn't perform the rest at all. The storyline had such potential.

Fun, funny and engaging.

I enjoyed this series as much as I did the previous one and especially enjoyed the merging of the characters. I’m going now to see what else I can find by this author and performer!

Can’t stand the narration

The story line was your typical cozy mystery, nothing to write home about. Good background listen. Maybe I’d have been more invested if I could stand the narrator, but I tried and tried to finish it but I noped out in the last book. Couldn’t take it anymore. I’d return, but I would feel bad because I did listen to all but the last 4 hours of it. Maybe I still will.

I loved the entire set. it was creative and kept me wanting to hear more.

Well...

I really wanted to listen to these books. Story line was interesting enough, however.... the narrator grated my nerves so bad. I could only take about 30 minutes and I was done. Would wait 3 or4 days and try again all to no avail. Would very much like to hear the rest of the books maybe if I wait longer between each listening session I might finish in a year or two.
