He’s hunting a psychopath. And now the killer wants him dead.

After he’s shot in the line of duty, Detective Thomas Shepherd returns to Wolf Lake to pick up the pieces of his shattered life. Living beside the water, he finds peace...until the body of a missing woman washes up on his shore, and the town blames a teenage boy with a history of violence. Is a killer stalking the sleepy resort village?

Thomas isn’t convinced the teenager committed murder. Challenging a village that wants justice at any cost, he pursues the real killer as evidence mounts against the teenager. If he fails, an innocent boy will go to prison.

Can Thomas clear the boy’s name before he becomes the killer’s next victim?

I rarely leave a review on a book that I have listened to but I had to on this one to warn others! The narrator is horrible, I kept thinking it might get better but it didn’t . It’s really too bad because the storyline was pretty good.

The Narrator is horrible

This is the first book in a new series. What an excellent read it is. The characters are likable and fully fleshed out. The story is believable and the plot is plausible.
The protagonist (Thomas Shepherd) has moved back to his hometown of Wolf Lake where he gets a job as a deputy. It’s a step down from his Detective position in California. He was wounded and needs a quieter life but wants to remain in law enforcement, much to his wealthy parents chagrin. Shepherd is their only child. He has very mild Asperger syndrome. Shepherd’s quieter life is soon shattered when the body of a missing teenage prostitute washes up on the lakeshore by his home.
This is a superb procedural. Very taught with some great “don’t go there“ moments. This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
Daniela Actelli does a wonderful job narrating.

the story was good but the narrator made it less enjoyable. I had a hard time following the characters as she used the same voice for everyone.
