Publisher's Summary

Hannah Morrissey's Hello, Transcriber is a captivating mystery suspense debut featuring a female police transcriber who goes beyond the limits to solve a harrowing case.

Every night, while the street lamps shed the only light on Wisconsin’s most crime-ridden city, police transcriber Hazel Greenlee listens as detectives divulge Black Harbor’s gruesome secrets. An aspiring novelist, Hazel believes that writing a book could be her only ticket out of this frozen hellscape, but her life isn’t exactly brimming with inspiration. Until her neighbor confesses to hiding the corpse of an overdose victim.

With an insider’s look at the investigation, Hazel becomes spellbound by the lead detective, Nikolai Kole, and the chilling narrative he shares with her. Through his transcription, she learns that the suspicious death is linked to Candy Man—a drug dealer notorious for selling illegal substances to children—and when Kole invites her on a covert operation to help take the dealer down, the promise of a story calls to her. As the investigation unfolds, Hazel will discover just how far she will go for her story, even if it means destroying her marriage, her career, and any chance she has of getting out of Black Harbor alive. Because if she’s learned one relentless truth about this place, it’s the fact that everybody lies.

"Narrator Angela Dawe assumes a millennial's exasperated tone, endearing listeners to Hazel Greenlee, a wannabe novelist."AudioFile

More suspense than mystery.

At it's heart its a passion love-story about an righteous adulterers choices + character development. Graphic steamy sex scene from the female's perspective. I, myself, am a male and tricked into reading this book because I thought it would be a suspense thriller, which I would argue that it is not.

Other than my own perceived false advertisement lure, I think this author is very talented. Does a great job allowing the reader to "join in" on the thoughts of the protagonist, just as if we were joining along in the thought processes and reasoning. Story flow is optimal. Narrator's performance is excellent/clear/energetic. I listened to this in the car.

A must read!

This book hit many notes for me. I love a good crime story. Aside from the suspense you get all the emotions of struggling relationships that makes the protagonist relatable. The narration is so well done. Angela Dawe really puts extra life to the characters through her performance and made it even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Goodbye, Transcriber

This is not a thriller, it is a trashy romance soap opera, with some drugs and crime in the background. The author spends most of the book trying to justify her sanctimonious, adulterous main character's irrational, annoying behavior. She falls into insta love with a coworker, cheats on her husband, but she is outraged that her lover is also sleeping with his brother's widow. Oh, and he might also be dealing drugs and murdering children. Please.

I was intrigued because the protagonist was a transcriptist on a police station. the plot kept me engaged. the story had good character development and the ending was unexpected. I recommend this book.

Loved this book!

The narrator did such a great job and I loved the book as well. The main character was complex and I absolutely love Morrissey’s writing style.

Twists and turns!

Really enjoyed this one! Listened to it in one day! Angela Dawe is my favorite narrator; she had me looking over my shoulder while walking the dog. Dawe bringing Morrissey’s words to life is a powerful combination!

Bought on recommendation of an instagram post and was disappointed. It’s not trash but I wouldn’t recommend
