A Romantic Hockey Comedy
Hockey. Drama. Battles on and off the ice.
Jack
I had my person I was supposed to grow old with, but he double broke my heart when he forced me to choose between marrying him or hockey. I chose hockey and if I’m choosing hockey, I’m doing it all the way and leaving love out of the equation. Sounds like a great plan until I show up to hockey practice and realize the guy I fell into bed with is actually my new coach.
Mercy
People depend on me. They need me. Worrying about myself has always come last. That’s what my life has been about since I was ten years old. That is until I decided to take what I wanted just once. Now, my heart’s decided Jack’s mine. I’ve fallen and I’ll never be the same. There’s just one problem. He’s on my hockey team and I can’t avoid him. I’m drawn to him like a moth to a flame. What do you do when you know in your heart someone’s yours, but you can’t have them?
This real Canadian adventure features possessive MCs, an age-gap romance, enemies-to-lovers vibes, and the sweetest gay hockey romance you’ll ever listen to.
It's a wild ride from start to finish with hilarious characters who do outrageous things. Oh, and of course, it contains the caretaking dynamic Mock (S. Legend and Canadian) is known best for. It’s a verified member of the Hot Pink Peaches Club.

Let me just start by saying that the narrators did an amazing job! I absolutely love Duet narrations.
This is my very first MM romance and it didn’t disappoint!
If you like sports romances ( especially hockey) you should give this one a chance.
Mercy is someone that has been surrounded by failed relationships. His father has had multiple relationships and no one has stuck around. He’s scared to hand someone his heart because he thinks no one will stay. All his relationships are extremely superficial and physical until Jack comes along. He actually thinks he’s going to just be another fling, but things go in a whole different direction!
Enter Jack, his partner wants him to just stay at home and he just wants to Play hockey. What’s going to happen when these two collide?! You’ll just have to read to find out 😆
I actually thought the side characters in this series were absolutely hilarious. Especially the part where they try to make mercy jealous 😂. It was overall an enjoyable audiobook and I look forward to continuing the series

Joe Arden once again gave an amazing performance not only as Mercy but an entire family, including Theo, the cutest kiddo EVER. If you’ve never heard him voice a kid, you are missing out. It’s adorable. This was the first book I’ve listened to by Zach Johnson, and let me say, he was perfect as the arrogant but sweet Jack. Together, both narrators elevated this book to a 5-star listen for me.

Mercy totally stole the show. He’s grumpy, anxious, selfless, and the kind of man who’d give you the shirt off his back. He sacrificed everything for his family and my heart just ached for him. Jack, on the other hand, is pure sunshine with a bratty streak. Sometimes I wanted to shake him, but he’s just too lovable to stay mad at.
The side characters were phenomenal...Jack’s friends, Mercy’s siblings (to include Logan, who you get just a taste of at the end), even Rhett (who I hated and pitied in equal measure).
Joe and Zach were perfect at bringing Mercy and Jack to life. Joe nailed the grumpy tenderness of Mercy and Zach (who is a new to me narrator) did incredible with Jack's sass and heart. Together they made every laugh, every fight, and every soft moment hit so hard. Plus, Joe’s kid voices? Always a favorite!
This book was hilarious, emotional, heartbreaking, and healing all at once. Jack and Mercy are soulmates, no question. Now I’m counting down the days until we get Rhett and Logan’s story.

Jack is in a committed relationship with a man he loves, but also feels like his partner is dismissive of his hopes and dreams as a professional hockey player. Mercy is a former hockey coach called back to the game. Mercy has plenty of responsibilities at home, helping to take care of his many younger siblings. When these two meet and have a one night stand, they do not anticipate the chemistry and connection they will have in the near future.
Zachary Johnson is Jack, and one thing I’ve enjoyed about Zachary’s performances is how passionately he brings his characters to life. Zachary is emotive, expressive and engaging as the man caught between his dreams and his dream man. The push and pull Jack feels between his past and his future is always present, and what’s really important is that Zachary balances Jack’s mourning of what was and his undeniable chemistry with Mercy. Jack’s sassy energy had me laughing and smirking.
And Joe Arden? He’s fantastic as Mercy, the man juggling every ounce of responsibility at home and on the ice. A standout of Joe’s performance is the variety of children and teenage voices he channels…. there are many children in this story (as you will find out, and they are all his younger siblings). Joe is remarkable at flipping Mercy from grumpy coach, to sweet “dad”, and to dominant partner oftentimes within the same chapter. . Joe’s flexibility as a vocal performer never ceases to amaze me, and like Zachary, his comedic timing makes the many lighthearted moments sing.
I couldn’t stop listening, nor did I want to. These two actors blend seamlessly together and brought happiness, heat and heart to my earbuds. It’s told in duet, is almost 15 hours long, and covers a lot of emotional ground. I will certainly be listening to more books written by S. Legend.

🎧📚🎧 Joe Arden and Zachary Johnson deliver a performance that takes this already amazing story to new heights, being exceptional in their roles, giving each a voice that is fitting, while humanizing them with their personality and emotions. Johnson was a natural as Jack and was convincing in the role, handling the witty dialogue with ease, but was just as amazing handling the serious moments. Arden was fantastic in Mercy’s role, Mercy, the one with so much on his plate, a man with so much love for his family and hockey too, going from a sweet father-like figure to a drill sergeant coach. Arden’s versatility as a voice artist truly shined in this book, performing the roles of the younger characters, giving each their own unique voice, handling the dialogue superbly. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to, and their enthralling performance rivets you to the story.
