Dirk + Travis -meant to be & audio is super hott

Audiobook update: I have now had the pleasure of listening to multiple audiobooks produced by Blue Nose Audio, including two full series, one of which is the Heartbreak Hockey series by S Legend. BNA's casting is always wonderful and this series has had a truly fantastic cast - I have been so excited to listen to each book. However, I think I have to say that the casting for Forbidden Hockey is just - immaculate. JF Harding and Declan Winters were just wonderful as Dirk and Travis and I could listen to hours more of them narrating stories in the Heartbreak Hockey universe! They brought out all the emotion, all the frustration and longing, and of course the spice was sooooo hot! So, yes, I strongly recommend this audiobook experience!

Throughout some of the other books in the Heartbreak Hockey series (especially Breakneck and Friendzone) we have caught intriguing glimpses of Dirk and his obvious crush on Travis, Dash's Dad. For your best enjoyment, it really is ideal to read Friendzone before reading this book (but why not just start from the beginning and read them all? so good!). Forbidden Hockey tells the story of something we readers have probably already guessed: Dirk and Travis truly belong together. The book begins with Dirk's backstory and establishes the relationship he has with his brother-dad Hunter (and the book ends with this important relationship too) and also his relationship with his BFF Dash. Through Dash, of course, Dirk is introduced to Dash's dad Travis and over time, they get to know one another as well. I love seeing the strong bonds of caring that are created between Dirk and Hunter, Dash and Travis, Dirk and Dash - and these last throughout their lives. Once Dirk is in his late teens, though, he starts to notice Travis not as Dash's dad, but as someone he'd like to be with...and for him, Travis is It. I love how bratty he is then, especially when Dash starts wearing these crop tops around Travis to tease him as well as showing Travis that he's attracted to older guys. However, despite some embers starting to glow between them once Dirk is in his 20s, their relationship is a very slow burn. Even when they aren't together-together, they are so possessive of one another and it's so hot to see this develop. Dirk just aches to be owned by Travis and Travis really, really want Dirk to belong to him! There are years of tension building up and once their barriers break down, oh boy! It's a conflagration! They take so long to get together and we are really able to see why they belong together - and Dirk and Travis come to see it as well. Not only do I love how they relate to one another, I love their heat, their caring for one another, and how each fulfills the needs of the other.

While I am sad this series is coming to an end, I have very much enjoyed getting to know all the main characters and side characters too. This is truly one of the very best found families out there. I love all the caring shown to one another by all MCs not only to their partners, but also to their friends/found family. *Tears* Luckily, we also get some hints that this is not the end of stories set in this universe, yay, and I cannot wait for more!

Forbidden Hockey by S. Legend was done in duet narration with J.F. Harding and Declan Winters.

I really, really loved this one. I was not overly impressed with the previous book in the series, so this was such a pleasant surprise. The prologue alone added so much depth by giving more backstory into Dirk, his brother, Dash, and their father. It helped everything click in a way that made the emotional stakes feel much higher.

What I appreciated most was how the story didn’t shy away from the taboo elements. It openly addressed the questions surrounding acceptance, boundaries, and how the relationship might be perceived by others. Those conversations felt thoughtful rather than brushed aside, which made the story feel more grounded and intentional.

And the spice? Hot. It hit exactly where it needed to without overpowering the story, and the chemistry came through loud and clear.

The emotional buildup worked for me, the tension was well done, and the narration really brought everything together. This one completely won me over, and it’s easily my favorite from the series so far.

Y’all this series is addicting, and it’s a sickness I don’t ever want to be cured of! Forbidden Hockey had everything I could have ever wanted in an age gap, best friend’s dad, mm hockey romance, and it’s filled with delicious yearning, pining and sneaking around. I absolutely ATE this up!! 😍😍

I love how fun S. Legend’s writing is. Like the books are lighthearted and funny, and gives you all of the feel good rom com vibes, yet they also take seriously the darker tropes or elements of the story, and they’ll pry at your emotions. There’s always a strong sense of self acceptance and awareness with these characters, and men that are proud to be who they are and embrace love (after the journey of getting there 😅). It’s very easy to get pulled in and lose hours engrossed in these books, which is what happened to me while listening to this on audio. Before I knew it, I was at the end and wanted moreeeee. I could love with these characters for forever!!

Trav and Dirk together was one of my favorite couples from the series. I just loved their chemistry and dynamic and felt like they were just so perfect for each other. Definitely a ride or die couple. The spicy scenes between them were so hot, my headphones are still cooling down. 😅 I honestly just really love S. Legend’s spice and the dirty way she writes the scenes. It’s guaranteed to make you sweattttt, baby!!

As for the audio, JF Harding and Declan Winters performed in duet, and I have to say.. this was an incredible pairing. They fit so well as the MC’s and I couldn’t put it down. I totally binged the entire series and I highly recommend listening to them all on audio!! 💛💛

Ahhhh! I cannot even describe how good this book was. It’s funny, I was listening to Breakneck and decided to pause that one since I’ve read the book, and my goodness, I’m so glad that I did! I literally was messaging her about all my favorite parts or what parts had me shook because ma’am, this might be my all time favorite book! I cannot wait for the audio version because I’m here for every moment whether I’m shook, laughing, in my feelings, and just here for it. I knew I was going to love this because a forbidden romance with age gap - sign me up pretty please!

Travis was so unhinged and so possessive over Dirk and it definitely was not one sided at all and I was here for every part. Making him do things had me hooting for these two. I felt for Travis on so many levels because he still felt bad what happened to Dash. And when he gets certain news, he is not okay by a long shot.

I will say that Travis and Maxwell’s bromance that happens shocked me but it was something that I didn’t know that I needed between these two characters! And Maverick has “selected” Dirk to be his friend. The conversation they have about Maverick’s obsession with Bryce - I’m dead!

Also, Hunter is the best brother/father figure for Dirk because man, their mother is a straight up hateful witch!

I love how the two thought they were discreet but shoot, most people knew it and it was funny when Penny won the kitchen bet!

Now, my favorite moments were the following:
Dirk calling Dash son when Dirk finally confirmed he was with his father.
Travis grabbing Dirk and everyone seeing them together holding hands
Maxwell and Travis’s bromance and eating real food!
Travis putting Dirk on the schedule so suddenly for him to ask him to take one of his shifts to go to his brother

When she gives us a teaser who the next couple is going to be, I need it like right now! I never knew I could want a book instantly but when you read this book, you’ll insert! I also cannot wait for the other two as well!

Edit: I read this book back in October from reading it as advanced reader copy and when I found out this book was coming out in audio, I knew this book was going to epic! Both narrators made the listening experience so amazing. I loved how the guys played the side characters but mine had to be when the perfect scene of Dirk and Riley meet. Oh and don’t get me started when Dirk and Dash got in a fight when Dash found out and Dirk was making his comments about being his stepfather.

I received a copy of this book/audiobook and this is my honest review.

So Pucking Fantastic➞Story & Narration🎧

More greatness is happening in S Legend’s “Heartbreak Hockey” series, Dirk Boulder and Travis Nolan’s story, a story with lots of heart, witty dialogue, shenanigans, and hot loving. I have been looking forward to their story ever since meeting them, but then again, S. Legend writes characters you can not help but fall for — well maybe not all, there is Maxwell, the jury is still out on him. Dirk and Dash have been best friends since they were young, and they both had a lot in common, including their love for hockey. Dirk had a crush on Dash’s dad, Travis, for years, but in Travis’s eyes Dirk was too young, despite the undeniable chemistry between them. A persistent Dirk never gave up on Travis, and when he finally gave in, these two were everything and so was watching their love for one another grow, despite having to keep their relationship secret until they broke the news to Dash and Dirk’s brother Hunter, who raised him. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all plays out, with the perfect balance of drama, angst, humor, heartfelt emotions and a slow burn, but so worth the wait, steamy romance. As always, S. Legend’s writing, plot and world building are incredible, as are the character growth and development. This is an age-gap and (not so) forbidden romance superbly done. Thank you, S. Legend, for another amazing story, the laughs and emotional rollercoaster ride.
