Story
As high achievers, we’ve been conditioned to believe that the path to success is paved with relentless work. That if we want to overachieve, we have to overexert, overthink, and overdo. That if we aren’t perpetually exhausted, we’re not doing enough. But lately, working hard is more exhausting than ever. And the more depleted we get, the more effort it takes to make progress. Stuck in an endless loop of “Zoom, eat, sleep, repeat”, we’re often working twice as hard to achieve half as much.

Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things - a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others.

Story
Overthinking isn't a personality trait. It's the sneakiest form of fear. It steals time, creativity, and goals. It's the most expensive, least productive thing companies invest in without even knowing it. And it's an epidemic. When New York Times best-selling author Jon Acuff changed his life by transforming his overthinking, he wondered if other people might benefit from what he discovered. He commissioned a research study to ask 10,000 people if they struggle with overthinking too, and 99.5 percent said, "Yes!"

Pragmatic Yet Lacking
Dr. Tim Sharp is a positive psychologist who gives you a pragmatic look on happiness. Overall, and in summary, you cannot always be happy and to expect such is unrealistic. Why then did that take 10 minutes to explain?
Sharp then proceeds to talk about creating a vision board to organize what you want out of your life—at the end are a bunch of people who talk about how their vision boards helped change their lives. It did not feel authentic. I also did not know who any of the 5+ people were.
Overall, this podcast is 3/5. It is not terrible. It is not great. It is average.

Very Practical and Practicable
Dr. Sharp lays out 10 key skill sets that can be used by anyone to increase their satisfaction with their lives. I like his positive attitude and examples. I don't recommend trying to do everything at once. Start with step one, let it settle in, and then move on to another step. Maybe don't feel obliged to do everything in order. We should all get this training in high school!

Not for disabled people
I wanted to listen to this to get tips on what to do/concentrate on to be happy more of the time. But as a disabled person I frankly found it pretty depressing. Apparently when visualising your 'great life' to aim for, the most important thing is that "you're healthy and happy, full of energy". As someone with a chronic illness which affects my energy levels this made me break inside a little. I have struggled long and hard to carve out a happy fulfilling life while ill, and it's been very difficult to accept the reality of my illness (and the permanence of it). Visualising a life free from illness and full of energy is something I've had to train myself out of doing as it only brings sadness, anger and stagnation as I wait to be healthy again (or try endless snake oil cures), rather than building a good life with the health I have.
So to hear in the first few minutes of these podcasts that the most important thing for visualising "your version" of a "great life" is to visualise one full of health and energy...
Thanks for ruling out any life I am able to lead from your vision of what makes a "good life" where I could be happy. This podcast is ableist bullshit which will make you miserable if you're permanently disabled.

Superficial & potentially harmful
Dr. Happy is a pretty nauseating name for anyone who I older than 5 at birthday party expecting a clown. Repeated use almost requires medication. The focus on materialism to achieve the transient experience of happiness ("on my boat with my mates") is very dangerous, leading to a futile pursuit of more "stuff", costing more money, bringing the twin evils of debt & more work. The cases at the end of the three chapters I was able to listen to sounded like self-satisfied assholes. Very glad this book was free

Positive psychology 101 - and still ridiculous
You have heard it all before. As is always the case with pos. psych., the goal is to be happy, there's a list of things that have been proved to help you be happy, and if you just follow the 10 habits, you will become happy. The thing is, this is never the case. "Dr. Happy" even says so in the final episode, basically admitting that although it all sounds good, it will be hard and you won't be happy anyway. So really, what's the point?
This is just another list of tips and tricks to fool yourself into thinking that you are important and that happiness is a goal in and of itself. Don't bother.

Pathetic and self absorbed.
Writer / narrator behaves like a child. Writes like this is the first time he’s held a pen. Do something brave! Jump out a plane!! Get some exercise! Have a great life already!
I am an able bodied relatively stable and moderately successful person (in terms of achievements and “material wealth”), yet this book is still just a “live laugh love” type of affair. If you do not own a boat or are independently wealthy, this book is not for you...
Read David Burns book instead.
These are not habits for happiness, unless one of Dr Tim’s habits was to write 10 useless episodes, pat himself on the back and think to himself “..and that’s how I became Dr Happy!” Sickening stuff.

Author clearly has no understanding of PTSD
The author obviously has no understanding of PTSD. To suggest that people who get it focused on the negatives and not the positive outcomes of the trauma, is ludicrous and an insult to so many who have served. PTSD is not comparable to people who have benefited from trauma. PTSD is the subconscious brain defending itself/reliving it. Someone can have PTSD and still grow from their trauma at the same time. Unbelievable how this even got published. I couldnt continue after that as it completely discredits everything else he has to say. This is a disgrace.

Got me thinking
Feels like one of those rare books that may actually make me change behaviour rather than put down and never think of again. I've already worked out some of my own habits for happiness.

It's nothing new
Everything here has been said before, for decades in fact. There's nothing new or innovative and it's not even repackaged in a new or interesting way.
The practices here are effective because they've been researched and rehashed many times. Good thing it's free, I would have returned it for a refund otherwise.
