Publisher's summary

Here are the real events that inspired Gary Paulsen to write Brian Robeson’s story in Hatchet, The River, Brian’s Winter, Brian’s Return, and Brian's Hunt: a stint as a volunteer emergency worker; the death that became the pilot’s death in Hatchet; plane crashes he’s seen; and his own near misses. He takes listeners on his first hunting trips, showing the wonder and solace of nature along with his hilarious mishaps and mistakes. He shares special memories, such as the night he attracted every mosquito in the county, and how he met the moose who made it personal.

Enjoyed the "Behind the Stories"

I've read all the Bryan Hatchet stories. so it was nice to hear where Gary Paulson got some of his inspiration. facts and other information for those books. The Moose attacks were my favorite!

Hatchet’s Inspiration.

Of course, the Hatchet series is better, this is behind the scenes look at stories/events that inspired the books. This book did make me want to start the Hatchet series over again. Picked this up for $1.00 so it was worth the price. Narrator is good.

Awesome

I didn't have high expectations for this book, but I was greatly surprised. if you read the Brian books as a child you will love this. very interesting to hear these stories. it was just too short. I wish it could have kept going.

I've always wondered if hatchet had any backstory.

Much detail about the author and how his life created the idea for Hatchet. Fantastic!

Interesting life....

It was a very good book, but what were the other dogs’ names? I can’t believe the life he lived!

Best stories

I started using Gary Paulsen’s stories, Hatchet , Canyons, logging camp. To get my then 7 year old to realize there were good stories to read a dit was worth learning to read. We had them on cassette tape. Since then I love Peter coyote’s voice . 30 years later my husband and I still listen in the car. We love Woodsong. We had not seen guts , I found it when I needed to update my listening mode. It was wonderful to hear the “true” life story behind the stories. Gary has given my family many years of wonderful memories and traveling stories. I have not had a bad read from any Gary Paulsen story.

Guts

It is a great story I have read all the Brian books which are fantastic books. The only thing I didn’t like was the reader but otherwise it’s a great book and I highly recommend it.
