The world reclaims all things. Humanity shelters within their ever-dying cities. Mages and Archons give their lives to create the only path forward.

Tala, having witnessed the marvels of the forest cities and the perils lurking in the southern woods, prepares to embark on a treacherous journey back to the plains from Makinaven. Guided by the unwavering support of Terry, Rane, and the enigmatic Mistress Odera, she is honing her skills and preparing for the trials that lie ahead.

Ancient defenders of mankind emerge, while hidden perils lurk in the shadows, threatening to unravel everything she thinks she knows about the world. Amidst newfound allies, intriguing contracts, and relentless challenges, Tala strives to embrace her chosen place among the defenders of mankind.

Tala continues her Fusing, delving deeper into the inner workings of magic and the soul.

I really enjoy this series as a whole. the slow detailed pacing is really nice, easy to follow and gripping.
I'm a bit bummed about the development with Rayne. originally I was told that tala was ACE and I was excited about that prospect. as I got further into this book, even after she turned him down, I googled...(I know I shouldn't have) and found out their relationship progresses quite a bit further than just friends.
all together, I think this series is good so far but I'm not excited about the time and attention their relationship is gona take away from the quality of the first 4 books.

I have to say, I have really been enjoying this series. It doesn't have a super complicated plot, but it doesn't need to. Somehow, it's just fine the way it is. I especially like how the author recontextualizes ideas, items, and creatures from many other forms of fantasy into its own unique world and magic system. Now if you excuse me, I'm craving coffee for some reason, so I will end this here and have a gallon or two.

Still Quite Good

I like fantasies of all type. This keeps me engaged even with my adhd and doesn’t have filler.
