Publisher's Summary

Montana Coggeshall, duke of Coggeshall, defeater of dungeons, he of far fewer intelligence points than is probably recommended, is finally ready to start building his dukedom. He just needs one more thing before he can leave Osterstadt: a few hardworking friends to join him on this adventure.

Well, and some lumber. And nails and whatnot. And enough food to get through the winter. And probably some more gold.

All Montana needs before he can leave Osterstadt are some friends, some building materials, food, and money.

But he did promise to retrieve some magic texts from a cemetery for Emmeline. And he really should try to help the lost little boy who keeps following him around. And all the undead in that basement crypt aren't going to re-kill themselves.

Maybe Montana's taken on a few too many side quests.

This series is a riot!

I must say, this series is a lot of fun, and a good chunk of that fun is simply how well Neil Hellegers does at getting into character with the MC's inner monologue. I definitely eagerly look forward to the next book in the series coming out

Entertaining!

Listening to Montana's journey is a fun one. The story makes fun of itself but still takes itself serious enough. I enjoy how fast the author and narrator are churning out these books, considering how short they are. They don't seem to be dropping in quality either.

The third book was probably my favorite so far with tons of childish humor revolving around waste. This book was still funny though and I found myself laughing. The way Montana just brute forces everything is hilarious and oddly satisfying.

Past the halfway mark we get to see some interesting character development. Montana travels with a group but despite being surrounded by people he feels and technically is utterly alone. I can identify with this and assume many others as well. This proves this series is not all fun and games and can take on a serious undertone.

I am a bit disappointed in how utterly lacking in knowledge Montana is. He has an advisor who is supposed to teach him everything and friends who know the world better than him yet no one ever helps him understand. They complain when he does stupid shit and get upset yet how can they expect anything else from him. How about all that down time during travel and resting they actually talk to him without berating him.

Overall, I quite enjoy the series and would recommend it to many different audiences. There is a lot of gruesome violence and intense profanity (Which is hilarious btw) meaning I would exclude young children from my recommendation.

TL;DR : A hilarious series that jokes around yet is quite serious and has some valuable lessons you can take from.

This series is great. I’m already excited for the next book to come out. Eric Ugland is a master story teller.

MOOOOOOOORE!

The ending cliffhanger was a bit mean, but the story is wonderfully immersive and funny. Love the main character!
