Exile to the miserable world of Sedh, the disgraced Necron Lord Oltyx is consumed with bitterness. Once heir to the throne of a dynasty, he now commands nothing but a dwindling garrison of warriors, in a never-ending struggle against Ork invaders. The reluctant hero born again!
This appears to the be the first book in the entire series from Black Library (according to the wikis anyways) - nice to see older titles getting the audiobook treatment.
There are two narrators (Penelope Rawlins is also present); one does Cain the other is the Inquisitor-friend who is editing his "memoirs."
Excellent performances, and the writing is what one would expect from a Cain novel: witty, self-aggrandizing, and very much the reluctant hero we expect from a Cain story (basically it is very entertaining to make a long story short - the writer does a stellar job).
Great book overall - if we see more Cain you will see more coin.

Finally, Ciaphas Cain comes to Audible!
it's wonderful that the Black Library is finally expanding on audible. The stories of Commisar Cain are legendary across the Segmentum and I've devoured every one in book form, going as far as to purchasing the hard covers when they were released. The narrators do a top notch job of capturing the characters personalities and foibles and I can't wait for the entire series to be released.

The rest of the series needs to be recorded too.
I read several of the Cain series of books many years ago when they were first published in physical format and i thoroughly enjoyed them, and with GW's recent push into audio books by putting practically all of the Horus Heresy titles (and others) online i hoped they would get around to Cain too at some point.
Listening to the first book after all these years was as enjoyable as when i first read it, and i strongly hope that GW has plans to adapt the rest of the series.
Story is good though understandably from a different perspective than most 40K books which tend to focus far more on characters who are perfectly willing to die at the drop of a hat.
The performance captures Cain's personality well and the interludes from the Inquisitor and excerpts of Sulla's memoirs are handled great.
Thoroughly recommended.

Well above the 40k average
Very well written and extremely well performed. There aren't many 40k books that I've laughed out loud at, but this is one of them. There are some 40k books that read like they're written by the most humourless of Imperial historians with the Emperor's own rod of office up their ass. This, I'm delighted to say, actually manages to take the mick out of them.
Just hurry up and record the rest of them. Same cast please!

A Different Take On 40K...
I must say that when i got this, it was purely because i had a token spare and there was a 2-for-1 offer on a couple of audiobooks, i would never have considered it otherwise as I normally get a little annoyed when Audible choose to not give us the Omnibus versions of these book,
but never the less, this is a very fun and frankly humourous take on the 40K Universe and I am happy i own it.
The story concerns the titular Comissar, a hero of the imperium of mankind, and his bid to survive as a coward while maintaining his reputation as a beloved icon. His inner thoughts interject throughout the story where he tells the listener that just wants to be as safe as possible, while also being expected to lead the charge. He is a manipulative scoundrel, but his Rogue-ish charm makes him hard to dislike, a great character to read about.
im not good at reviewing things so just buy this on impulse and i swear you will enjoy your time.

Story is perfectly place in the warhammer 40k universe and filled with characters you love and hate. It gives a great incite to the universe and everyday life. The sole narrator does a great job with voices and there are other voice actors for certain places too. I love this series and think that it is perfect to listen to and hope they put up the rest. they need to really.

The Man. The Myth. The Legend.
Fantastic to listen to Cain in action. Would love to see more of the full books pop up in store.

good
that was really good. can't say I know much about Warhammer, but that story can stand on its own, and I'm immediately buying the next in the series.

Entertaining science fiction audiobook.
Another entertaining Warhammer science fiction audiobook. it did skip or glitch four times from memory, but not enough to ruin the listening experience. I was also irritable over the hint of romance in this book, I didn't think it was necessary at all. Well worth the time though, a great read.

commissar cain is a legend!
Great to hear a warhammer series about a a man like him constantly trying to avoid danger but finding and besting it at every turn, bloody fantastic.

Well worth the read
This has been a title with the Black Library for a while now, and is still viewed as a staple for a good reason.
