Publisher's Summary

Fourteen years have passed since the virus ripped through the global population, crushing the modern world and leaving the cities crawling with the infected.

The immune who survived the violence of the collapse fled to remote havens like Balmorhea, a tiny town in the desert of Far West Texas. There, a few hundred Normals made a go of it, building walls, farming the dry dirt, and learning to thrive together.

With them, Zed and Murphy, survivors of the infection are different but still human. Distrusted and despised because of what they are, they're still the first to fight when the hordes maraud out of the wastes.

Now, a new menace is lurking beyond the horizon, threatening to destroy everything they've built. Will they survive the savage violence sweeping across the desert, or will they be consumed by the firestorm?

Bobby does it again

I can’t believe he could pick up this story of Zed and Murphy after 14 years and still make it such an excellent read. Loved it. Hope it continues with another in this series.

A fantastic addition to a great series.

Null Spot is one of my favorite characters and listening to his hardships throughout the Slow Burn series has been great!

Favorite subtle quote from Firestorm:
"His name is Garmin." - Murphy (final chapters)

great continuation to the series.

while I thought the first 9 books didn't need to be continued, this was a surprisingly good continuation of the story.

wish I didn't read this book.

I've recently stumbled into the apocolypse/end of the world type genre after loving dozens of those types of movies. This series, however, is hardcore depressing most of the times. It's like a sink where you take your happiness, stuff it in and let it drain away. The entire first saga of the movie has been gut punch after gut punch of despair and hopelessness and when things finally started to look up at book 9, it is once again, like many times before, ripped away in book 10. We needed more steph time in the first saga. I hoped for more in the second, I was wrong. Very wrong. I can't tell if the author just likes to crush souls or just hates writing romance.

That being said Bobby Adair is a genius writer. I just want to be happy while reading a book, or listening to it. The author can create such amazing characters that he gets you to sympathise and feel for them every time anything happens. As such, it mentally and emotionally hurts when things go wrong again and again on perpetual repetitions. I know it's like the end of the world and everything and nothing should be taken for granted but I want to feel satisfaction and not when reading dammit. Why did Bobby have to wrench out my soul and why is he so damn good at doing it.

Anther good book in series..

Less action yet more introspective story. Z can get so frustrating, stubborn and childish, yet this is good as this sucks you in and you want shake the guy…well done
