Publisher's Summary

Rosamunde Pilcher's captivating best seller of loss and the healing power of love.

Elfrida Phipps loves her new life in her pretty Hampshire village. She has a tiny cottage, her faithful dog, Horace, and the friendship of the neighbouring Blundells - particularly Oscar - to ensure that her days include companionship as well as independence. But an unforeseen tragedy upsets Elfrida's tranquillity: Oscar's wife and daughter are killed in a terrible car crash, and he finds himself homeless when his stepchildren claim their dead mother's inheritance.

Oscar and Elfrida take refuge in a rambling house in Scotland which becomes a magnet for various waifs and strays who converge upon it, including an unhappy teenage girl. It could be a recipe for disaster. But somehow the Christmas season weaves its magical spell, and for Elfrida and Oscar, in the evening of their lives, the winter solstice brings love and solace.

Enjoyable and sweet

In the beginning I did not like the narrators voice too much, or rather the way she impersonated the male characters. But along the way I got used to it and enjoyed the book. I like Winter Solstice and The Shell Seekers best of all Rosamunde Pilcher’s novels and I’m truly glad that this book is now available at Audible. Thank you!

A terrific tale ‘ A Winter Solstice’ By Rosamunde Pilcher

I really enjoyed this story. It was well paced, very descriptive with interesting and likeable characters. I am going to order another Rosamunde Pilcher straight away as I am sad that I have finished listening to this one. I also really like Jill Bond’s interpretation and narration. Well Done !

Enjoyable and heartwarming

When I started listening to this, it took me a while to work out I read it years ago. This did not matter, it is such a lovely story, especially to read in the depths of winter. I love the characters, the narration was good and I thought she was a female narrator who did a very good male voice, unlike some. I was sad when it finished, I could have gone on listening.

A Cosy, Fabulous Read!

A very interesting story read by a wonderfully talented narrator. A cosy book to curl up with. I'll be looking for more from Rosamunde Pilcher and more by this narrator. Sad to have finished!

Re-meeting an old friend!

Any additional comments?

It is many years since I first read this book and listening to the audible version, beautifully read by Jilly Bond, was an ideal way of revisiting the delightful story of the build-up to Christmas, experienced by a disparate group of characters in Cornwall. I enjoyed the story every bit as much the second time around.

Sheer magic

Jolly Bond has brought another dimension to this much loved story. What a joy it was to listen to her.
