A set of Short Stories

I got this ARC via audiobook book boom and this is my voluntary review. This set of stories did not really set my mind onto something that I could wrap my mind around. The stories at times were interesting and at times seemed to be good together but then at times did not make sense. I could grasp some of the concepts but did not really seem to get a handle around the story. The narrator was good and kept me listening. This was less than 2 hours so it was not hard to get through.

Good listen

The stories, poems, etc were really good. They are written from a male POV and can be rather sad at times

The narration was just OK. It could of had a little bit more emotion.

Beautifully written

This is a hauntingly beautiful audiobook the stories and poems were well written and expressed his emotions. The narrator did an okay job, but I think with more emotion it would have made this even better.

What does Craig Randall Nickerson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Mr. Nickerson does an excellent bringing the emotions of each work to life. His voicegave depth to each story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The frank discussion of a child that might have been was touching. Every choice has a consequence.

Any additional comments?

This collection of short prose works from a man’s point of view gives the reader some insight into the private thoughts of a man as he works through different life experiences - depression following a relationship failing, loss of a child, loving relationships and changes in life. Each short vignette explores the feelings and emotions that are often internalized and never shared with others.

Feelings

Through Thunder and Light
By: Daniel Maldonado

This is a collection of short stories, poems and verse. He tells of love, loss and emotions. These are shared from the male POV, and help the listener to understand his heart. I found certain parts very sad.

The narration was OK, could of had a bit more emotion for the subject. This was voiced by Craig Randall Nickerson.

Different

I wasn’t sure what to think when I read the synopsis because this was a different type of audiobook/book than my norm. I think it was beautifully written, but referring to any of these as a “short story” didn’t fit with what I listened to. These were more like someone’s thoughts, but not like journal entries either. Because of this, there were times throughout listening when I found myself distracted and had a hard time staying focused.

I wasn't a fan of the narrator. Maybe if someone else had read this, I would have liked it more/held my attention better. But the narrator was unnatural sounding as he read. He sounded robotic and/or nasally like perhaps something was wrong with his microphone.

I received a free audiobook code in exchange for an honest review.

A Nice Collection of Short Stories

Through Thunder and Light was a meaningful collection of poetic short stories. Told from a male's point of view, these stories are thought-provoking, moving, and solemn. The beautiful spoken word. I think this is the second book by Daniel Maldonado and I'd like to listen to the first one as well. I have a great appreciation for this type of writing.

Craig Randall Nickerson's performance was perfect for the stories. He read them very well. I think he had the right voice inflections as well. I look forward to hearing more from him.
