Book 1 of The Land

Tricked into a world of Gods, demons, goblins, sprites and magic, Richter must learn to meet the perils of The Land and begin to forge his own kingdom. Actions have consequences across The Land, with powerful creatures and factions now hell-bent on Richter’s destruction.

Can Richter forge allegiances to survive this harsh and unforgiving world or will he fall to the dark denizens of this ancient and unforgiving realm? A tale to shake “The Land” itself, measuring 10/10 on the Richter scale, how will Richter’s choices shape the future of the land and all who reside in it? Can he grow his power to meet the deadliest of beings of the land?

When choices are often a shade of grey, how will Richter ensure he does not become what he seeks to destroy?

This is a really fun book!

I chose this book because I love the narrator, and I was pleasantly surprised. I love worldbuilding books (i.e. Brandon Sanderson, Robert Jordan, and anything similar) And have recently begun playing RPGs, So this book caught my attention. The book reads as if the main character is home playing an RPG, then all the sudden He passes out and when he wakes up, He has been transported into a real life Fantasy RPG! It is extremely entertaining

Great Start to a Great Series

I found the book to be interesting and was able to enjoy the world building along with the story's basic progression. The narrator is fantastic and consistently adds to the enjoyment of listening to the story. On a side note: I keep getting weird looks from fellow commuters seeing me laughing and slapping my steering wheel/shouting "no, don't do it!" at my radio. I guess that means I find the story immersive. Please keep it up!

Truly great experience

This book is quite remarkable. Search an intriguing story. It kept me captivated from beginning to end. This story starts off amazing and stays amazing throughout the whole book. I almost want to do a review in the middle of the story. I guess the only thing to do now is to continue on with the next book and next book and next book until the series is complete. Do yourself a favor and purchase this book, listen to the story, and get drawn in to the world that the author has magnificently created.

Pleasantly surprised...

Honestly, the comments were more helpful than the the synopsis of this audiobook. If you enjoy RPGs this book is a good listen. However there is one thing that escapes me in the first two chapters. How did the main character not lose his mind? Lol I would recommend this book to anyone into fantasy/sci-fi/litrpg/adventure style readings.

The cusp of a new favorite series!

Aleron does an amazing job building this story around a guy whose life has been completely changed by being sucked into the fantasy world we've all dreamed about while struggling with real life choices that will define Richter. I am constantly asking myself what I would have done in the same position and whether I would if not could take the same path.

Absolutely enthralling!!!

I bought this around 1-2 weeks ago and I am just now finishing book 3 and already bought the 4th! I am finding myself taking a 5 minute drive and if I don't turn it on I kick my self because I missed out on that time!

The only reason I am glad I didn't start this earlier is because that'd be more waiting until they are all on audiobook!

Get this! Get this now and lose yourself in the mist village!

New to LitRPG and RPG itself

Had friends who were into RPG + but always thought it would be boring.

LitRPG is a great introduction..... if I can get past my solitary introverted nature maybe I'll join a quest.

I thought the character development and expression of power/abilities/skill to be very focusing - this writen/ narration style commands my attention better than any other.

It would be interesting to read/listen to LitRPG Marvel or DC.

This will go into my Top 10 shuffle

Iron Druid
Bobiverse
Emperor Mullusk
Monster (Martinez)
Darth Maul
Darth Bane
American Gods
Graveyard Book (Gaiman)
Hard Luck Hank

Amazing!

I'd never before heard of litRPG and was wonderfully impressed with both the concept and the delivery. The story was engaging, the narration superb! Loved the sounds effects, too. Going to buy the next book now...

Great book and series

I loved this book! It is the second series I have started in the lit rpg genre. I am now through the first 4 books in this series and it emotionally hurts each time I finish one if the next if not available yet. Nick Podehl does such a wonderful job narrating this book that I have begun looking for other series narrated by him.

Great summer read

After a quick purchase while on my way out of the country to the sun I wasn't expecting much. The combination of smart writing and an interesting plot idea has left me buying the next few books in the series.

Brilliant

It was an excellent book, filled with funny references and sarcastic moments. The character of Richter is amusing and reflects a typical young male, and his companion, is equally as endearing

Amazing series, worth the investment

This book and all others in the series I could not stop listening too. Aleron Kong has done an amazing job at bringing this world to life. the character development is amazing and makes me feel real nostalgic for the days I used to play MMORPGs

the only issue I had with this book was fixed in the books going forward. which was the loudness of the notification sound effects when items were obtained etc, this is fixed from book 2 onwards

5 star performance for nick too

Awesome

This is the 1st litrpg book I’ve read and was hesitant as I don’t play games, but wow. I was captured immediately, the narrator did a great job, sounded enthusiastic and obviously loves his job. The story was well written and I couldn’t tear myself away. Credit to the author I love fantasy and this were right up my street. An easy listen with lots of detail too. I’ve listened up to book 4, all great just can’t wait for book 5. Credit to the author

An engaging LitRPG that is well narrated.

Where does The Land: Founding: A LitRPG Saga rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

With an excellent narrator, this audiobook is as immersive as any other LitRPG you will find.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that the story stayed a bit more in-line with gaming experiences and gradual power. While the character does seem unusually powerful to what a gamer might expect a 'character' to start as, this is not a "powerstomp" that you might expect from the Russian authors. If you enjoy the journey of the character, this story has it.

What does Nick Podehl bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Nick Podehl was a great narrator and gave Momma a hilarious accent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is perhaps one criticism to be had, and that is that the main character doesn't strike a lot of emotional chords. He seems very accepting of what has happened, spends almost no time adjusting, and while he has an admirable motive, he has yet to face real dilemma and challenge. That being said, this is the first book, and I expect more to come when the budding relationships kick off.

Any additional comments?

A great book. The author is ambitious in calling himself the "Father" of American LitRPG, but time will tell.

Love this series. Funny, action and great characters

This book had me at hello.
The audiobook (nick podehl) has the characters just right. (Specially muma). Quick humour, better fights and a gamers wet dream.
If you're into military scifi, fantasy and gaming, you will fall in love with this series and read it over and over.
Warning... you will buy the next books in the series and eagerly await the latest release, so allow time to immerse yourself in this ripper universe!
Thanks Aleron!!!

Not for me

If you like DND board games you will like this. Well i like a good fantasy fiction but this is not it, seems that stat menu's and quests come up with a toll bell, that rings all the time (its so annoying) and the main character starts off as a self centered power hungry guy put into a world that is running exactly like a board game, then desides to change to a guy that still wants power but to help others and build a better board game world, its not even his world why should he give a crap lol the guy doesnt even miss anything about his life in the real world( the guy must have had no life at all). 😥

If you want to get into genre

It's a little heavy on the rpg elements such as notifications and inventory but the story line is solid voice acting decent and the character is charming in his own way but has his irritating moments his American heritage can be a little bit overdone but what character is without his flaws don't expect romance and it's more a base builder and dungeon grinder then open world adventure

A Truly Engaging and Highly Entertaining Series

Dear Mr. Kong,

I found your work on Audible. During the hours I don't spend working, I haven't stopped listening since the first few minutes of Founding. Just finished Forging, now waiting for credit to renew for Alliances.
Being a fantasy RPG fan (Elder Scrolls, WoW, The Witcher) I love them.
Nick Podehl deserves considerable credit for the way he reads your work as well, great choice.
The skill you have for writing, sir, is Rare, and the quality of your books is Superb.
The depth of detail is not Tolkienesque, but with the way you write, giving just enough indication and insinuation, The Land takes shape in the mind easily. Richter is a great lead character: humourous, heroic, humble when he needs to be, but a regular guy in truth and prone to moments of ‘Doh!’ (I relate to him particularly on the latter.)

Thank you for sharing your imagination with us. I wasn't sure about LitRPG to begin with, but I am glad I took the chance with your work.
