Laughter, Tears, Mystery and Anger

You know its hard to not love a book that brings up the emotions you never want to let out. This book was not only hilarious but it also gave you that rage for villains you hate. It tore at your heart at parts and then left you confused with the mystery's that bring you back wanting more of everything. I'd recommend this Saga to anyone, even those who arent much into LitRPG because they will never want to put it down once they have had a taste.

Welcome to the Land!!!

Ok so if you have never listened to or read a litrpg your in for a treat!

Aleron Kong does an amazing job of world building, character development, funny real world reference "alot of the litrpg out is russian based and some of the references mean little to the English crowd". If you have ever played an mmo and thought man I want to live in this world than this book is for you! The Land is a vibrant world with amazing characters "Sion is my favorite"! Nick Podehl is the narrator and his performance is great, the sound effects are spot on.

I won't give you any spoilers but if your even remotely interested in the summary give this book a go and you will fall in love!

Just do it!

If you have ever played a MMORPG in your life then you should download and listen to this book immediately. In the first installation of the series, Aleron introduces the main characters wonderfully and along with Nick Podehl's narration, I could barley "put the book down."

Just, wow.

I can’t believe a book like this exists and yet I’m surprised there aren’t more. This was genius. If you have ever enjoyed playing an RPG, playing Dungeons and dragons / pathfinder, or playing a MMO then you will find yourself loving every minute of this. My only complaint is that the audio version doesn’t translate well with the analyze skill of the main character. Some of that text is repetitive and can get obnoxious. I think it’s fine when you’re reading it because you can just skim past it. However, I think I heard the explanation of what a human is enough times that I might start saying it in my sleep. Regardless, this was amazing. I listened to it from beginning to end in 2 sessions. Can’t wait to start listening to the next book!

Remarkably well crafted!

Great tale, well written and well read. no slow points, great world building and connections. It will make you long for your favorite Fantasy RPG. By the end, you will want to play Kong's game, were it available.

Great summer read

After a quick purchase while on my way out of the country to the sun I wasn't expecting much. The combination of smart writing and an interesting plot idea has left me buying the next few books in the series.

Brilliant

It was an excellent book, filled with funny references and sarcastic moments. The character of Richter is amusing and reflects a typical young male, and his companion, is equally as endearing

Amazing series, worth the investment

This book and all others in the series I could not stop listening too. Aleron Kong has done an amazing job at bringing this world to life. the character development is amazing and makes me feel real nostalgic for the days I used to play MMORPGs

the only issue I had with this book was fixed in the books going forward. which was the loudness of the notification sound effects when items were obtained etc, this is fixed from book 2 onwards

5 star performance for nick too

Awesome

This is the 1st litrpg book I’ve read and was hesitant as I don’t play games, but wow. I was captured immediately, the narrator did a great job, sounded enthusiastic and obviously loves his job. The story was well written and I couldn’t tear myself away. Credit to the author I love fantasy and this were right up my street. An easy listen with lots of detail too. I’ve listened up to book 4, all great just can’t wait for book 5. Credit to the author

Not for me

If you like DND board games you will like this. Well i like a good fantasy fiction but this is not it, seems that stat menu's and quests come up with a toll bell, that rings all the time (its so annoying) and the main character starts off as a self centered power hungry guy put into a world that is running exactly like a board game, then desides to change to a guy that still wants power but to help others and build a better board game world, its not even his world why should he give a crap lol the guy doesnt even miss anything about his life in the real world( the guy must have had no life at all). 😥

An engaging LitRPG that is well narrated.

Where does The Land: Founding: A LitRPG Saga rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

With an excellent narrator, this audiobook is as immersive as any other LitRPG you will find.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that the story stayed a bit more in-line with gaming experiences and gradual power. While the character does seem unusually powerful to what a gamer might expect a 'character' to start as, this is not a "powerstomp" that you might expect from the Russian authors. If you enjoy the journey of the character, this story has it.

What does Nick Podehl bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Nick Podehl was a great narrator and gave Momma a hilarious accent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is perhaps one criticism to be had, and that is that the main character doesn't strike a lot of emotional chords. He seems very accepting of what has happened, spends almost no time adjusting, and while he has an admirable motive, he has yet to face real dilemma and challenge. That being said, this is the first book, and I expect more to come when the budding relationships kick off.

Any additional comments?

A great book. The author is ambitious in calling himself the "Father" of American LitRPG, but time will tell.

Love this series. Funny, action and great characters

This book had me at hello.
The audiobook (nick podehl) has the characters just right. (Specially muma). Quick humour, better fights and a gamers wet dream.
If you're into military scifi, fantasy and gaming, you will fall in love with this series and read it over and over.
Warning... you will buy the next books in the series and eagerly await the latest release, so allow time to immerse yourself in this ripper universe!
Thanks Aleron!!!

There are much better options in the GameLit genre

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

That mountain seems too high to climb.

Has The Land: Founding: A LitRPG Saga put you off other books in this genre?

If this was the first novel I had read in the LitRPG/GameLit genre, i would have been put off. I certainly would not have had the same excitement I had when I read my first novel in this new genre, written by one of the Russian authors who coined the genre name, LitRPG. There are so many better examples in the LitRPG/GameLit genre.

How could the performance have been better?

The performance was okay, however it was completely ruined by the narrator’s use of sound effects. The constant and repititive bells ringing as the MC levelled up made it impossibke to listen to the book before bed as my partner could hear the noises through my noise cancelling headphones and I was unable to relax and listen to the story. The noises constantly broke my immersion.

What character would you cut from The Land: Founding: A LitRPG Saga?

The main character. I didn’t like the guy, which made it very hard to like the book. He had no back story and seems completely unphased by his new reality and the life he has left behind. His humour is sophmoric and he lacks any deeper inner life.

Any additional comments?

I wanted to like this audiobook but it had none of the elements, like a compelling, layered storyline and likeable characters that I care about, that make me lose myself in a story.

A Truly Engaging and Highly Entertaining Series

Dear Mr. Kong,

I found your work on Audible. During the hours I don't spend working, I haven't stopped listening since the first few minutes of Founding. Just finished Forging, now waiting for credit to renew for Alliances.
Being a fantasy RPG fan (Elder Scrolls, WoW, The Witcher) I love them.
Nick Podehl deserves considerable credit for the way he reads your work as well, great choice.
The skill you have for writing, sir, is Rare, and the quality of your books is Superb.
The depth of detail is not Tolkienesque, but with the way you write, giving just enough indication and insinuation, The Land takes shape in the mind easily. Richter is a great lead character: humourous, heroic, humble when he needs to be, but a regular guy in truth and prone to moments of ‘Doh!’ (I relate to him particularly on the latter.)

Thank you for sharing your imagination with us. I wasn't sure about LitRPG to begin with, but I am glad I took the chance with your work.

Rubbish

Kept on waiting for it to get better. Terrible story full of plot holes and a waste of time. I had just finished a Brandon Sanderson before picking this up which probably led to the huge feeling of dispointment. No where near the same league of writing.

Simply Amazing

Within hours of starting the first book I absolutely had to download the rest 10/10. I would recommend this book series to anyone who has a great imagination and loves RPG games

It was narrated perfectly and it was elegantly written.
