Publisher's Summary

Is it a gesture of goodwill or a sinister trap that lures Rupert St. Vincent and his family to a magnificent estate? How desperate is Joyce Lambert, a destitute young widow whose only recourse is to marry a man she despises? What unexpected circumstance stirs old loyalties in Theodora Darrell, an unfaithful wife about to run away with her lover?

In this collection of short stories, the answers are as unexpected as they are satisfying. The Queen of Mystery takes bizarre romantic entanglements, supernatural visitations, and classic murder to inventive new heights.

"Surprise - Great Stories that I hadn't read"

What a treat it was to listen to these stories. For one thing, I never knew Agatha Christie wrote any stories concerning the supernatural. Not all of these employ supernatural elements, but they are all enjoyable and the narrations are over-the -top. I think I feel my British roots asserting themselves!
Highly recommend, a great summer listen as they are short stories and you can finish in a car or plane ride.
I hated to see these end and will definitely listen again sometime - you know, there's always some subtle things you miss the first time. That said, in the story with the cat, I have never seen two such clueless characters trying to solve the mystery. But it was very entertaining anyway.

I am an artist, lover of books. Love reading or listening to a good book. I live on the East Coast of Canada with an awesome ocean view.

    "Alright but disappointing in places."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

no, too many holes and not the typical writing of Christie

Would you be willing to try another book from Agatha Christie? Why or why not?

Love Christies writing, this combination of stories was not up to par. Many of the stories seemed to end too soon, too quickly.

Did The Golden Ball and Other Stories inspire you to do anything?

Not to buy another combination book.

"Great, even if it's a bit too familiar."
    Any additional comments?

Great collection of Christie short stories. A couple that I read in earlier books, but still enjoyable. Some gems in here.

    "Early Christie Stories?"
Would you try another book from Agatha Christie and/or Hugh Fraser and Christopher Lee ?

The stories here are short and very simple. There are none of her familiar characters and I wondered if these stories were written early in her career. The mysteries are ways to get couples together and marriage is quickly proposed after a short meeting. The supernatural stories were very different, with the Hound of Death having a bit of Lovecraft feel. Both narrators were excellent.

"Some fluff, but some really good ones"

A very good collection of short stories from the Queen of Mystery. Standout stories are "The Strange Case of Sir Andrew Carmichael" which concerns a murder plot and the ghost of a gray cat and "Next to a Dog", not a mystery story but a simple, well told tale of a girl at her wits end, who has only the love of her dog to keep her going. The tales Christopher Lee reads, which had been published in the UK as The Hound of Death, are overall better tales, as some of the others are slight romances, where people fall in love after knowing each other mere hours!
