Publisher's Summary

Born and raised in idyllic Sullivan's Island, Susan Hayes navigated through her turbulent childhood with humor, spunk, and characteristic Southern sass. But years later, she is a conflicted woman with an unfaithful husband, a sometimes resentful teenage daughter, and a heart that aches with painful, poignant memories. And as Susan faces her uncertain future, she realizes that she must go back to her past. To the beachfront house where her sister welcomes her with open arms. To a place haunted by long-held secrets and devastating betrayals. To the only place she can truly call home.

Thought I'd like it?

I had just finished The Last Original Wife and really enjoyed it. It was funny and well written and very well performed. I would highly recommend it. In fact I may listen again, which I never do. I was so disappointed in this one. The story seemed to jump around, the character development was poor. I really didn't like anyone. Just not for me. Just noticed this is the abridged version. I think that must be a big part of the problem. Sorry I wasted a credit.

Wish there were more

I wish that I had realized that this was an abridged version. The story suffers because it isn't so developed.

Half the book is missing

Where does Sullivan's Island rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

this was the first DBF book I read, and I loved it.. there is SO much the audible book is missing. very disappointed.

What was most disappointing about Dorothea Benton Frank’s story?

all the missing parts of the book. like it was edited for TV

Did Joyce Bean do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

no. they sound like made up northers trying to be southern

Good story but I didn't realize it was abridged

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Well yes but I didn't realize it was abridged. I know - my fault for not paying attention.

Would you be willing to try another book from Dorothea Benton Frank? Why or why not?

Yes I have read almost all of her books.

Do you think Sullivan's Island needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

It does have a follow-up.

A Little Predictable

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

But still a nice story. It was easy listening and another good book by Dorothea Benton Frank. I am partial to books about the south, though!
