Publisher's summary

This collection of sharply observed animal-themed tales is a delight, told with David Sedaris's trademark blend of hilarity and goodnaturedness. Though the characters may not be human, the situations in these stories bear an uncanny resemblance to the insanity of our own everyday interactions.

In "The Toad, the Turtle, and the Duck", three strangers commiserate about animal bureaucracy while waiting in a complaint line. In "Hello Kitty", a cynical feline struggles to sit through his prison-mandated AA meetings. In "The Squirrel and the Chipmunk", a pair of star-crossed lovers is separated by prejudiced family members.

Bizarrely compelling

I honestly don't know how to describe this book. It has a few laugh-out-loud moments, but mostly I found myself listening with half-smile and dumb-founded look on my face, trying to comprehend what I was hearing. Imagine David Sedaris, living as an animal.

I return to this book over and over

Would you listen to Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk again? Why?

I have no memories of being read to as a child , but, as an adult, this is one book that I could see myself requesting to hear over and over again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk?

There are many, but love the first story of the simian beautician placating the cat for tips seems to remind me of everyone.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

I loved all of the narrators voices

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Little gems!

I *rarely* listen to an audiobook twice. This was such a precious collection of pithy, juicy little stories that I *had* to listen to some of them multiple times. Loved the narration too, particularly Elaine Stritch. She captured the tone of the story perfectly.
