Publisher's Summary

When Lisa Jones and her boyfriend, George, take on the run-down Rocks Hotel, they aim to do for Mariscombe what Rick Stein did for Padstow and set up a chic maritime retreat. But renovating a hotel is about more than stripped wooden floors and Egyptian cotton sheets, particularly when the locals are shifty and unhelpful. Especially Bruno Thorne, the tall, dark, and surly owner of the nearby Mariscombe Hotel, where life is one long holiday - for the staff, anyway. Amid the sandcastles and surf, passions run high as ghosts of the past come out of the freshly painted woodwork. A little midsummer madness leaves Mariscombe's inhabitants floating on a tide of infatuation.....Sending some of them rather too close to the rocks.

Good story but let itself down in places

Any additional comments?

I like Veronica Henry's books, they are light but fun, always with a good mix of reasonably believable characters. This is no exception, and actually has more twists and turns than usual. Several different strands interweaving into the main story, some of them - like the effect of Joe's death on his mother - really well done. The ending is signalled fairly clearly a few chapters beforehand but that doesn't really detract from it and Jilly Bond reads it well. So far, so good.

What let it down for me were the graphic sex descriptions that suddenly appear without reason or warning and were a bit disconcerting when driving! Books come in all different types; in some graphic descriptions are part and parcel of the oeuvre and I've no problem with that. But in this one, they are plonked in awkwardly almost as if some Agent has said to her "good writing, but spice the next one up to increase sales will you?" Veronica, don't take any notice of the marketing people next time. Your books are fine as they are.
Wonderful listen and read beautifully

I simply love this story and Jilly Bond is an excellent reader, with lots of different "voices". The story is unusual and amusing and the writer creates beautiful pictures in the head, her descriptions are so good. I wonder what other books she has written.

Lovely lighthearted, easy listen.

I really enjoyed love on the Rocks, some of it a little predictable, but a few twists and turns. Very easy to listen to well narrated, and found myself looking forward to the next instalment. Worth a listen.

Unputdownable

A wonderful story, brilliantly read. Difficult to put down and with a happy, but expected, ending.

Thoroughly enjoyable

What made the experience of listening to Love on the Rocks the most enjoyable?

An interesting intricately woven yarn, that ended up very satisfactorily. A pleasure to listen to.
What does Jilly Bond bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

An easy voice to listen to that suited the story line.

A rocky read

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No I found the book bitty. it jumps from one story to another. I found the sub plots soooooo predictable.

Has Love on the Rocks put you off other books in this genre?

I don't think I will read this author again

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I did not appreciate her attempts at character voices. He voice was too old for this book.

Could you see Love on the Rocks being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

no. not in the UK. May be a cheap C movie in the USA or internet porn romp

Any additional comments?

I found the book a cheap disjointed sex romp. It was predicable and turgid. Sorry I could not finish it but being predicable I probably can guess the end.
