Publisher's summary

The Jacobs family has lived at Orley Court for generations. But when Vanessa Jacobs is widowed and left to manage the property, she finds costs spiralling out of control. In order to stay in their beloved home, she and her daughters will have to sell part of it off - a decision that drives a wedge between Vanessa and her mother-in-law.

The new owners of the north wing are Laurence Sturridge and his father, Marcus. Both of them long for an escape: Laurence from the monotony of his City career; Marcus from the grief of losing his wife. Could the beauty of Orley Court offer them a fresh outlook on life?

As the two families embark on a challenging new chapter over the course of a glorious English summer, secrets are revealed and relationships tested. But as Orley Court begins to weave its magic over them, will it be love, above all, that brings the two families together?

Possibly the worst narrator!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I've literarily listen to hundreds of Audible books but I have to say this is the worst narrator ever. That's why I could not recommend this book to a friend, although the story is OK.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The worst intonation ever, not as bad when as the voices of a characters, but otherwise really nerve grating.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

probably not

Love, gardens, and tea

This novel is different from my normal genres, but all in all a quick and sweet read.

The narrator did a good job ready, but her voice did get on my nerves. She draws out her words in a fashion that’s very frustrating. I actually speed it up so that it shortened the way she speaks. Accent seemed authentic, but so frustrating with the how it flowed.

A father and son overcoming the lose of a loved one and finding their way back to each other. A mother recovering from the loss of her best friend and husband. Her 2 daughters finding themselves after tragedy and personal hardships. Their grandmother recovering from loss of her husband, son, familial hardships, and finding herself within the strength of family she thought had wanted to leaver her behind. A good man with the help of retired cop helping a group of young people who need a second chance at life finding it in the English gardens. All three stories intertwined beautiful as each characters pasts are revealed, they begin to heal, and they begin their new journey.

Pretty Good Story

The first time I read this author...The story was pretty good and the descriptions of the garden were nice. I Liked the characters although there were quite a few story lines
going at the same time... a lot of switching back and forth...I DID NOT like the narrator....her voice was cloying....the only reason I stuck with it was because the story was held my attention.. Will not listen to another book with this narrator.

Horrible performance

I couldn’t get past the first chapter due to the obnoxious woman reading. It was more like she was narrating rather than reading a story.

Enjoying the Book and Narrator

I am enjoying the story and the narrator.
I have enjoyed all of the author’s books and enjoy the fact that this book, that takes place in England, is narrated by a British narrator.

Pleasant simple story

"Love" describes so many more relationships than a just romantic one. In this book, it's about the relationships between parents and children, betwixt siblings, among friends, with your in-laws and even a person and their circumstances. Nothing too heavy. Just a comforting, everyday-life kind of novel. Very enjoyable listen while cleaning or going for a walk. My only complaint was the narrator. She was extremely breathy and dramatic at points while reading ordinary descriptions. Thankfully, she lost a lot of her breathiness when doing dialogue or I'm not sure if I would have been able to keep listening.

Well done audiobook

A well-done audiobook. I enjoyed all the characters. The family dynamics made for an interesting story and the budding romances are sweet. I had listened to a previous novel by Victoria Connelly and I enjoyed this one even more.

Lovely, heart-warming story

This is a heart-warming story of loss, broken and restored relationships, and finding love again.
Wonderfully done, the descriptions of the gardens and the English countryside made me feel as if I were there.

Lovely, endearing characters. The stories of each one unfold and blend together seamlessly.

I listened to the audio version of this story and narrator, Susan Duerden, did a fantastic job.
I would definitely read more by this author.
