Publisher's Summary

"A landmark in American literature" (Chicago Sun-Times) Stephen King's number-one national best seller about seven adults who return to their hometown to confront a nightmare they had first stumbled on as teenagers...an evil without a name: It.

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It's a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real.

They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them to reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city's children. Now children are being murdered again, and their repressed memories of that terrifying summer return as they prepare to once again battle the monster lurking in Derry's sewers.

Readers and listeners of Stephen King know that Derry, Maine, is a place with a deep, dark hold on the author. It reappears in many of his books, including Bag of Bones, Hearts in Atlantis, and 11/22/63. But it all starts with It.

    "Holy Sh*t"

I had never read a Stephen King book before. The new movie 'It' is what got me to pick this audio book up and holy sh*t, I'm glad I did. I was thrown through hoops that surprised me, made me happy and also ones that made me REALLY uncomfortable. Wow, I LOVED this book and can only pray the movie does 'it' justice.

    "Solid performance; silly story"

I have loved (and been terrified by) every Stephen King book I've read up to this point: Pet Semetary, Cell, Riding the Bullet, The Mist, and The Shining. So I was disappointed to find that I really didn't enjoy this one at all, despite it being perhaps his seminal work. I guess it could really freak you out if you're scared of clowns and spiders, but I never felt like it approached the atmospheric dread of some of his later works. Random heads popping up in refrigerators and scary faces on balloons feels much more silly than creepy. The performance on this audiobook is generally good, but it tends toward hysterical during the "super scary" parts where I felt like a cold, almost emotionless tone would have been way more impactful, since the "jump scares" are so absurd and otherworldly. Overall? An impressive production, but not worth the 45 hours it asks you to spend.

"Great performance but BEWARE of volume"

The voice actor who did this has a great width of characters and pitches. However, there is no controlled volume or compression on these tracks. His voice gets unbearably loud when he gets loud and then inaudible when he quits. I got INCREDIBLY tired of constantly switching my own volume controls because it was either too loud or too quiet. Kind of a menial thing to be pissed over but frustrating nonetheless.

"Great performance but the editing was awful"

The only complaint I have has to do with the editing. It happened very many times where half a word would be cut off at the end of a section and it got frustrating to listen to.

    "Amazing!"

I loved this story!! I read it for the first time when I was a kid and loved the book. I loved the original movie, as well. This was definitely something better understood as an adult.

    "King at his best!"

It does not get much better then it. King some how turns a horrifying story into a story about love, best friends and loss on in one amazing story. It is a sizable time commitment to listen to this book but I would recommend to any fan of audiobooks.

"Incredible Performance of an Incredible Boom"

I was nervous about tackling a book this dense but WOW was the audiobook a huge help. Furthermore, the reading of book wouldn't be nearly as good as it was without the exceptional performance given by Stephen Weber. I have a whole new respect for him as an actor after this!

    "Fantastic performance and story"

As the first full length Stephen King book that I have listened to (or read), IT was a great read. Highly entertaining, always interesting, and more than a few interesting ideas all wrapped up in a horror book. I have to say that I did not find this book at all scary, but listening in the car on the way to work is a little different than reading in the dark

Also have to say that Stephen Weber did a fantastic job. Might be the best audiobook narration I have heard to date.

"One of the best books I've ever read/listened to."

the man reading did terrific with pace and keeping the story moving not only with the changing voices for each different character but also how he would raise and lower his voice to show the change in what was happening. the story itself was terrific and just made that much better by the man reading it.
