Publisher's Summary

Christine was eating into his mind, burrowing into his unconscious. Christine, blood red, fat, and finned, was 20. Her promise lay all in her past. Greedy and big, she was Arnie's obsession, a '58 Plymouth Fury. Broken down but not finished.

There was still power in her - a frightening power that leaked like sump oil, staining and corrupting. A malign power that corroded the mind and turned ownership into possession.

A wonderful book brought to life

This is one of my favourite King novels and Holter Graham did not disappoint as the narrator. The character's were fully realized and just as I imagined them to be. Very impressed

So much more than just a "killer car"-story

The character in the book are wuite relatable, and the suspense some of the best King has written.

Way better than the movie

Sometimes watching the movie first can ruin a book. Not in this case. I found the audio novel much more compelling and a way better story than the movie portrayed it.

really love this book

it is really detailed horror story with a bitter end... and I have found really interesting the character of the baddie... not a plain one... with his rage and his love for christine and the rock and rollo!!

Exceptional - truly exceptional

Would you listen to Christine again? Why?

Absolutely! I have read the book several times, and loved it. The film was, I guess OK. I was dubious about listening to the audio version (I can no longer read) but boy, was I NOT disappointed.

What other book might you compare Christine to, and why?

Pet Cemetery - same author, so guess it's going to be similar in style. I haven't listened to this in audio. He has a very fertile mind.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Pursuing Buddy and pals, although difficult to chose as they are so vital to each other scene,

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Already been done.

Any additional comments?

This narrator was born to read horror. I was very dubious about someone else reading it to me, but his performance and interpretation was outstanding. He made the characters sound more like I believe Stephen King intended them. Better than my imagination when I read the book. One of the best audiobook performances I have heard yet.

Fabulous!

I've listened to a number of Stephen King books and this was by far the easiest to listen to and get in to! Thorough enjoyed the book and performance, and would suggest any Stephen King fan will love this book.

Proto King

It's interesting to see how many ideas King would later much better develop appear in Christine, not just in the more immediately familiar Castle Rock tales, but the more intimate narratives of Lisey's Story and Bag Of Bones. And of course From A Buick 8 that arguably exists as a second stab at portraying a demonic car, this time with subtlety instead of clanging mallets.

But this is a clumsy novel, most especially highlighted by the central act's jarring switch from first to third person. It's also a really quite remarkably misogynistic story, with women either helpless maidens or screeching maniacs, betraying a narrow view that thankfully King has (mostly) shaken today.

Despite that, Christine is bursting with King's unrivalled ability to bring characters to relatable life, even in one of his sillier stories.

Phenomenal

Wow. Everything about this audiobook completely exceeded my expectations. Christine is definitely a household names and is constantly parodied by the likes of Futurama etc and it has definitely become an icon of the eighties. And now I completely understand why King is called "The Master of Horror"

While for the most part I would argue that King shouldn't be solely classed as a horror author, the man definitely knows what he's doing. Surely the idea of a killer car is silly right? Right. But not King's execution of said silly idea. I was genuinely unsettled for all of this book and downright scared at times, and for a book to do that to me is high praise.

The performance was brilliant, Holter Grahams subtle voice changes were very clever and extremely well done, I doubt I'll get his voice out of my head any time soon.

Do yourself a favour and listen to this sooner rather than later.

Great story, well read

As a recently converted Stephen King fan 'Christine' is a story I've wanted to get into for a while and this audiobook was an awesome companion to have in my car.
Holter Graham's narration is terrific, giving distinct, expressive voices to the different characters including one particular character who changes quite significantly throughout the book.
While not an overly scary book, it's definitely creepy until the last word and it's great if, like me, you're a rather slow reader but want to get through a thoroughly entertaining story.
