Publisher's Summary

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, the tiny town of Big Stone Gap is home to some of the most charming eccentrics in the state. Ave Maria Mulligan is the town's self-proclaimed spinster, a thirty-five year old pharmacist with a "mountain girl's body and a flat behind." She lives an amiable life with good friends and lots of hobbies until the fateful day in 1978 when she suddenly discovers that she's not who she always thought she was. Before she can blink, Ave's fielding marriage proposals, fighting off greedy family members, organizing a celebration for visiting celebrities, and planning the trip of a lifetime - a trip that could change her view of the world and her own place in it forever. Brimming with humor and wise notions of small-town life, Big Stone Gap is a gem of a book with a giant heart....

Great reader Slow but entertaining

Where does Big Stone Gap rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is one of the better ones. The story takes place in the blue ridge mountains, the reader talks in 1st person and tells her story with a twang. It isn't a book you can't stop listening to but you definitely want to go back to carry on the story.

What did you like best about this story?

How the main figures outlook changes and develops over time.

What about Adriana Trigiani’s performance did you like?

She stayed in character pretty well.

This book had me fall in love with love all over

This book had me fall in love with love all over again! I had a hard time getting past the author's voice, but the story captured my attention. I have to admit I caught myself staying in my car, long after I got home, just to listen to this story in silence. Can't wait to read the next 2 books in the series!!

A true depiction of the beautiful, rich life and people of Southwestern Virginia!

Adrianna Trigiani absolutely nails the essence of the simple, yet beautiful life of people in Southwestern Virginia! For those of us who grew up in the Appalachian region, moved away and have come home-literally or in our hearts- the rich heritage, humor and blessing of our roots rings true. The characters are relatable and endearing. I read the Big Stone Gap trilogy years ago, and have enjoyed it even more now.

From Small Town East TN - this was a MUST READ!

Would you listen to Big Stone Gap again? Why?

Yes, Yes and YES!!!! I adored this book. I loved that Adriana was narrating, being from a small town a few hours south of Big Stone Gap I could totally relate and hear some familiar "talk" and actions that made me laugh out loud!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Big Stone Gap?

So many moments, I simply loved the entire book, I can't pick just one moment.

What about Adriana Trigiani’s performance did you like?

I absolutely adored her way of mimicking the "mountain talk" ... people getting "murried" AKA Married , loved her way of distinguishing each character in the book.

If you could take any character from Big Stone Gap out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Oh it would have to be Iva Lou she is just the type of friend I would have. You could be caught up on all the town gossip in a few minutes around Iva Lou.

Any additional comments?

This will be a book that I will listen to many times! Listen now!

Loved it!

Any additional comments?

This book is a breath of fresh air in a world of poorly, uninteresting books. The plot may be unambitious but it is still a great story and a suite of moments in the lives of a community, somewhat in the vein of 'Steel Magnolias'. Sweet, funny, charming. I really enjoyed it. Excellent performance by the author.

Trigiani has better

I've really enjoyed many of Trigiani's books but this one didn't really capture me like others have. Normally, I think I would like an author reading their own book but I just couldn't fit Trigiani's voice with the 30-something character she described. In general I found Ave Maria to be rather annoying, always trying to figure out what the other characters were really thinking rather than taking anything at face value. I just wanted to tell her to grow up. I didn't find any of the male characters very compelling or interesting; everyone is a foil for Ave Maria and her insecurities. I may or may not try another in the series as I usually enjoy Trigiani's work. Maybe this one was written before she honed her craft?

Love, Love, Love the Big Stone Gap stories!

Would you consider the audio edition of Big Stone Gap to be better than the print version?

I love both the book and audio book of Big Stone Gap. I bought the version with Adriana Trigiani reading the book and feel she is incredible. After first reading this book, I couldn't wait for more. And, now, one day, I hope to visit Big Stone Gap. I am fascinated with both Appalachia and Italy. It is hard to review one book without wanting to reference the entire story. I can tell you this . . . the characters and story make you feel good. Clean, simple, and make you smile. This book makes you feel a part of these peoples' lives. Good and fun read & listen!

Have you listened to any of Adriana Trigiani’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

All of Adriana's performances for the Big Stone Gap series have been great!

Who was the most memorable character of Big Stone Gap and why?

I love them all, but I have to say - Iva Lou and Fleeta get me laughing!
