Publisher's Summary

A heartwarming and deliciously funny story about the world’s worst-behaved dog and how he trained his human how to love herself again.

Through the haze of vodka and self-loathing, Hazel Roundtree saw the poor creature lying in a ditch. One brown eye. One blue. Covered in mud and crying from pain, the puppy was desperately trying to free itself from a hopeless situation. She almost kept walking by. She had her own problems, and besides...no one had ever stopped to help her.

Who we’re ultimately meant to be is a journey without end, but there’s always a defined start....

Hazel had no idea the dog would be her beginning, her second chance, the miracle she never saw coming. She named him Atticus. He grew up to be a very bad - and completely awesome - dog. He took Hazel on a life-changing journey filled with mischievous adventure and painful heartbreak. In the end, Hazel grew up to be completely awesome, too.

Loved this Incredible Journey!

Atticus is more than a story of a woman and her dog. It is a brilliant story about how two beings find each other when they need them most. It is about their incredible journey from being lost and cast aside, to self discovery, resilience, and unconditional love. The moment Hazel found Atticus, and reluctantly saved him, their journey began to save each other. I was totally captivated by Atticus, and how this mischievous yet adorable pup could affect the lives of so many, especially Hazel. This unique and heartwarming story will have you in tears, both of sorrow and joy!
Narrator Bahni Turpin, was amazing at bringing this beautiful story to life. Her voices were expressive and distinct and I especially loved her interpretation of Atticus.
I loved every moment of this hilarious and heartwarming story!

Life Affirming

Sometimes you just pick up a book and it's a favorite from the very first page.
I read and listen to a lot of books. Around 150 a year.
By the end of the year I'll probably remember a dozen that shone.
This will be one of them.

A wonderful, heartfelt story

Oh my word. Not quite sure where to start. What a story! So many feels. Having read and loved the book, I was so looking forward to listening to the audio. Bahni Turpin is a new narrator to me, and I’ve got to say she nailed all the voices perfectly, even that of Atticus. I can’t imagine I t’s easy trying to portray a dog. A story of self discovery. A story with so many emotions. I swear I don’t think I’ve laughed out loud so much whilst listening to a book. Atticus was so so funny. There were some extremely emotional scenes and I did spend the last 10% of the audio in tears, yes, even though I knew what to expect, I was still a blubbering mess. What a wonderful heartfelt story, the narration complimented the book so well. Most definitely one of my favourite audios of 2018, I definitely got all the feels.

Superbly written and narrated!

I am so stunned that I forgot to post a written review the minute I finished this wonderful story in July 2018. It was a huge oversight on my part because everything about Hazel Roundtree's journey to become a more self-realized person was fantastic. The fact that it included Atticus, one of the most endearing canine characters ever written in a novel, and a few other key supporting characters made it all the more special. And narrator Bahni Turpin gave a stellar performance not only as all the very human characters but also as the puppy who becomes arguably the world's most worst behaved dog.

Every since I completed this book, I recommend it every chance I get. In fact, I just recommended it today to a friend on GoodReads which is how I discovered I had yet to review it at all.

My final verdict: Read this irresistibly entertaining audiobook!

Bow wow wowza heartwarming story

Loved Atticus, now every time I see my friends dogs I picture them talking to me or about me. Just in Bahni ‘s voice❣️

This was a great story about a girl and her dog, they both shared their love for each other. All the characters were amazingly done by Bahni, and Sawyer Bennett gave us a true,y heart warming story of friendship, perseverance and love.

Otis turned into a grandfatherly friend who I would have loved to mentor me growing up.

I’m writing this review a bit after listening, don’t know what happened to my review that I thought got posted but I need y’all to know that this is a great story to spend your time on,especially if you like dogs and can picture them thinking of you and what you are doing.

A different kind of love story....

Hazel is down on her luck with low self esteem. Her husband has kicked her out of their home, she's tending bar part time for less than minimum wage and renting a friend's couch to sleep on. Hazel's life begins to change the moment she rescues a puppy wrapped in barbed wire in a ditch. As the puppy, Atticus, grows so does Hazel's feelings of self worth. New friendships are formed and enrich Hazel's life more then she ever thought possible. As Hazel's love for Atticus grows she learns the best lesson of all....how to love herself.

Bahni Turpin was excellent as Hazel. Her narration from Atticus' POV was funny and touching. This audio book will make you laugh and cry. This is definitely an audio book that will be listened to again.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Mans Best Friend Stars

Anyone that has ever owned a dog should read this book, even if you haven't you should read this book!!

This book has FEELS guys, lots and lots of feels!

Told from 2 POV's, this story was expertly written by Sawyer Bennett.

POV 1 is Hazel, she has had a rough time, she was a high school dropout, has a cr*ppy job, and is feeling pretty cr*ppy about her life.
She was married young, and for a time she was happy, until her husband decided to see if the grass was greener in someone elses garden, and subsequently kicks her out leaving her homeless.

Her best friend takes her in and lets her stay with her and her boyfriend on her couch, and she's happy there too........for a while.

While walking home one day in the rain, nursing a hangover from the bar she works at, and after spending her last bit of money on cigarettes she hears a noise, and looks into a ditch by the side of the road, seeing a muddy mound moving, but caught in some barbed wire.

Walking down to help out what she thinks is a raccoon she soon realises it's a puppy!

After getting the wire off of him she see's that he's hurt, so she wraps him up and takes him to the nearest vet.

This is where we meet Dr Peele, and he will eventually become a huge part in Hazels life, but for now he is a cranky old man.
He helps fix up the puppy, and gives him back to Hazel, who can't even look after herself, let alone a dog!
So they come to an understanding, because Hazel has no money to pay for the dogs treatment, she will work for Dr Peele as payment!

POV 2 is from the dog himself, Atticus!

Atticus is a Bernese Mountain dog, and he is naughty!!

Of course he's not called Atticus at the beginning, but we hear from him when he escaped, when he got stuck in the ditch, and when he was rescued by Hazel.

We hear about how he feels about certain people, about smells, about his little puppy family, but most of all we hear of his love for Hazel

The story is how they both saved each other, and mix that in with a few other characters like Bernard the homeless guy, and you've got yourself one hell of a perfect book 😇

You will also hear in the book the Atticus has his own Instagram page, this is a real thing, yes i looked it up, yes i am now a follower.

🎧🎧 Narrated by the incredibly talented Bahnni Turpin, this book was a double whammy for me, one because it is SAWYER BENNETT PEOPLE! and two, Bahni Turpin!
If she narrated a grocery list, i would buy it!

Dog lovers will love it

The most heart-warming storey ever. Sad in parts too so keep your tissues handy. I Laughed, I cried, I remembered my own previous dogs. 100% recommend to anyone who loves dogs, or even people.
