    "Great voice"

I have read Lucia Lucia before and liked this author, but now I love her. This is funny, charming, quirky, sad, happy and authentic. Love the author's voice in the work and also in the reading of it.

    "Loved it!"

I was pleasantly surprised by the twists and turns in the story, which kept me reading. The main characters were created with depth, and came alive. The author also brought into the story the advancements of the early Victorian era that made it interesting and believable. The author was able to convey the oppressive nature of society towards woman in the early nineteenth century with empathy and compassion.

    "Good writing, slow moving..."

I read all the positive reviews of this book and really REALLY wanted to like it. I was hooked by the prologue and the first few chapters, but I'm finished part 1 and I just don't care anymore. The solid and descriptive writing style can only carry this book so far. I am SO annoyed by Amy's dependence on her feelings and friendship with her dead friend Aurelia, and Aurelia herself was inconsistent as a character. I also can't believe that Aurelia's parents were so indulgent of her whimsy as a child and so unyielding in how they treated Amy.
And the kindly supporting cast who never ever ever ever EVER asked Aurelia questions and held on to her secrets for years and years? I couldn't continue.
Also, an editor - both in writing and in audio production - could have caught some glaring errors: Aurelia is 8 years older than Amy, and in the beginning of the book, Amy is 17, but Aurelia dies at 23? And the narrator sounds like she has a perpetual stuffy nose - nothing major, but something I found hard to listen to.
I suppose if you want a light read and a look into Victoria times, you could do MUCH worse than this book. I like the author's style of writing, but her plot and characters wore thin.

    Any additional comments?

Liked the story a lot. Don't know why it seemed to take forever to get through the story though. Dragged on in a lot of parts. The Epilog was extremely disappointing. Finding out where Amy came from.... lame. Could have been a lot more interesting and/or surprising. Narration of book was superior.

    "Predictable but Endearing"

I read this book because it showed up as having enticed other readers that enjoyed 'The Thirteenth Tale' which is a book I enjoyed so immensely that I haven't been able to shuck it from my thoughts. I didn't expect 'Amy Snow' to be able to hold up to the haunting beauty that was 'The Thirteenth Tale' but I was curious and eager to see it try.

Amy Snow, the protagonist is a lovable and selfless character that is easy to like. Her journey to solve a mystery orchestrated posthumously by her best friend and benefactor was an intriguing enough story line to draw me into the story. Amy's dear friend had died with a secret she had never revealed to Amy and now after her death, Amy is to follow her clues to discover the truth. The author carefully paints lovely characters throughout Amy's journey to pave the way to the story's climax and these relationships and personalities carried the story well.

The climax of the book wasn't a huge surprise, there were ample suggestions along the way. However, I didn't get the impression that the author's intent was to spring the big surprise on us. Instead, the author's intent was the more personal journey Amy embarked upon to go from a poor and outcast character to a woman of society and eventually a woman in love. And so I didn't find myself disappointed in the lack of climactic reveal when the secret was discovered.

I will admit however that the cadence of the narrator felt painfully slow in the beginning. To my relief, after the first few chapters, once the story began to take hold of me, I scarcely noticed anymore.

Overall, the story was good and enjoyable. Not in my top favorites but still a worthwhile read for the credit I spent on it. While not on the top of my "must read" list, I trust that if you enjoy novels set around Victorian England, you will find 'Amy Snow' a satisfying read provided you aren't expecting any mind-boggling plot twists.

    "Loved this book"

Amy Snow is a delightful book. I love being immersed in the history and the propriety of women of this age. The use of english in this time is exquisite, I wish we could still communicate so eloquently. Loved the way that the book unfolded taking Amy on many adventures. I chose it because the Richard and Judy recommendations are generally correct, with this one winning the 2014 Search for a Bestseller award, I was not disappointed. I read other genres but feel the need to jump back to this era for some refinement now and again.

Stunningly good book. Gripping from the start. Narration is one of the best I've listened to. I finished this book so quickly as I just had to know 'what happens next'. I normally like factual or crime but this book has converted me. I will listen to it many times.

    "Completely drawn in"

I was a bit dubious to being with as the narrator appeared to speak very slowly. However she is very clear and crisp and once I got my ear in I found that my initial impressions were wrong and I was infact drawn into the story even more.

Amy Snow is a unfortunate girl of the period who has many struggles and has many hardships. This is a great story of how she battles through and eventually triumphs. I was so drawn in that in places I was welling up and was so desperate for the story to ensure that Amy Snow was alright!

I don't often get completely consumed by a book, but this one had me! I often listen on my commute into work and found myself sitting outside not wanting to go in as I wanted to hear more!
