The extraordinary new Lucas Davenport thriller from number-one New York Times best-selling author and Pulitzer Prize winner John Sandford.

After the events in Gathering Prey, Lucas Davenport finds himself in a very unusual situation - no longer employed by the Minnesota BCA. His friend, the governor, is just cranking up a presidential campaign, though, and he invites Lucas to come along as part of his campaign staff. "Should be fun!" he says, and it kind of is - until they find they have a shadow: an armed man intent on killing the governor...and anyone who gets in the way.

Critic reviews

"The latest Prey novel is exciting, politically astute, and ultimately terrifying. Sandford and Davenport are in top form.” (Booklist, starred review)

“Add a hammock under a shady tree, and you've got a quintessential summer read.” (Minneapolis Star-Tribune)

“Sandford, as always, sets a heart-pounding pace. He permeates his work with wit, an engaging hero readers have come to cherish and a cat-and-rat match that in this case draws on the streak of violence that for years has left a bloody stain on the nation. Timely and troubling, it’s a must-read for thriller devotees and political junkies.” (Richmond Times Dispatch)

Great action. For those who enjoy solving a mystery by following clues, most enjoyable.

Great read.

I've liked just about all of Sandford's Lucas Davenport books. I've liked them a lot. And I can't imagine better narrations than Ferrone brings to them. My one complaint with Sandford's Prey series has been that many of Sandford's bad guys have been gruesomely sadistic, much more so, it seems to me, than the plots required. In Extreme Prey, on the other hand, while there's plenty of violence, sadism is nowhere to be seen. And its absence doesn't detract a whit from the intensity and excitement the book creates.

As usual, Sandford and Ferrone are outstanding

Follow Lucas as he's drawn into an investigation of a possible assassination plot. Can't give away anything but I enjoyed this book as much or better than the prey series. Great surprise at the end.

Love Davenport , you'll love the last chapter

What made the experience of listening to Extreme Prey the most enjoyable?

John Sandford weaves a story both believable and exciting. I also enjoyed Richard Ferrone's voice work. It took me a bit to get used to his voice. Not because it's not an excellent voice, but because his Lucas Davenport and the one in my head were not the same. Once I got over that issue, I enjoyed his voice work.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lucas Davenport is the star of the story and always my favorite character.

Which scene was your favorite?

The major plot resolution at late in the book. I won't go in more detail to keep my review spoiler free.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Lucas Davenport returns in a story to die for.

I've listened to and loved every one of the Lucas Davenport series. Enjoyed this next step of Lucas's life and career. Richard Ferrone is the only narrator I can imagine doing Lucas Davenport. When Lucas makes an appearance in the Virgil Flowers series it just doesn't seem like Lucas without Richard's voice. I hope there will be another in the Davenport series. And the Virgil Flowers series as well.

Another great Lucas Davenport story

Sanford is truly amazing. He churns out Lucas Davenport books without ever missing a beat. Extreme Prey has all the great Davenport characteristics: The dry wit and sarcastic humor, the illusion of a gritty Midwest reality and a cast of highly realistic characters. In addition there's a sinuous plot, a satisfying narrative structure and sophisticated story-telling. Super book!

How does he do it?

Where does Extreme Prey rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This series just keeps getting better, the character are solid and the story lines great

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, the twist and turns kept me interested with the people and politics of the fringe groups wanting change

Have you listened to any of Richard Ferrone’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

What can I say Mr Ferrone is a true professional who brings life to all his characters and I hope he doesn't retire any time soon!!!!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Mr Sandford has the ability of a master story teller to hit all of my buttons, both with humor and heart felt pain. Keep up the good work

Look forward to seeing how Lucas works out in his new job. It will prove to be a real change from his limited Minn.
