Publisher's Summary

Darla was one of the few live-in submissives that he'd come to love. Twenty years his junior, she'd finished her course work and the exams for her PhD, then took a leave from NYU without writing the dissertation.

For several years, he'd let her hide in his penthouse: cared for and indulged, disciplined and educated, petted and punished.

He'd lost Darla, or - more accurately - set her free, to pursue the life she was meant to pursue, to be the person she was meant to be. That loss had hurt, but it had been the right thing to do.

Some time later, she'd sent him a gift, a young submissive she'd named Grace.

Damaged and vulnerable, Grace needed help, discipline and control, attention and compassion, healing from the kinds of abuse that often finds natural submissives.

In short - she needed a good master.

Being a dominant doesn't mean that you don't have obligations. He took Grace in. He provided her with the menu of nurturance and punishment that she so desperately needed. He taught her to understand herself - her needs and desires, her strengths and her vulnerabilities, her blind spots and her personal history.

Almost 20 years younger than the Master - like Darla - Grace isn't really suited to being a long-term lover or companion.

Does that mean he's doomed himself to a kind of serial monogamy, a string of younger submissives, an ongoing "catch and release" program?

Or is it time that he found someone his own age to play with?

The Good Master

What was most disappointing about Joy Zelig’s story?

This is supposed to be a trilogy, and it's in three parts, but there is a lot of repetition of earlier facts at the beginning of each of second and third parts,

Dominant and Submissive

The dominant and Submissive relationship never ceases to amaze me. The amount of trust, understand, and attention one needs to be involved in such a relationship keeps me intrigued. This book was fun listen to with amazing narration.

Liked Him!

The Master always gave them what they needed! He was still thoughtful even when he didn’t have to be. Loved the narrator! Great accents!

Snoozefest

Audio version.
I really tried to like this, but I found it to be tedious. I was bored by it. It also seemed to repeat itself a lot.
The narration was ok.
This audiobook was given to me for free at my request from the publisher or author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.

Dom's Life

This is a perspective from the Dom's side of a live in relationship. I found it interesting, since the sub is a live in. This story needed more though it is too short.

A high level look at a master and submissive relationship

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

This book is not what I expected. I would not classify it as erotica - it is more a story about a master and submissive without the detail of sex an erotica goes into. That being said, it was an interesting look into the masters side of the relationship. If the story had more "beef" to it, I would really enjoy this series, and would like to read more - the author could have definitely delved more into the story rather than given a high level look.

The narration by Maxx Power was really well done. He gave the character more substance and was easy to listen to. I would enjoy listening to more of his work.

All in all, if you would like an easy, quick read then I would suggest giving this book a try.

.........

What disappointed you about The Good Master?

Reading this felt like someone was giving me a quick overview of what was in it. No details, no scenes, just a quick, high level story with no guts.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something with a little more story and love to it

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I don't feel I had a problem with the narrator as much as I did with the actual book itself, Maybe that was the reason i was not a fan of the narration, because I was not a fan of the book.

What character would you cut from The Good Master?

there really was not much to go on, like I said there really were not any details, If i was to cut a character i feel that would leave the story even more empty.

Any additional comments?

There were some aspects of the writing that I found very strange, but there were also moments that really worked for me. The real problem I had with this book is that I think the author has it all 'in her head' and forgets that we - the reader- are not privy to her thoughts and vision for the characters.

This is supposed to be a trilogy, and it IS in three parts, but there is a considerable amount of repetition of earlier facts at the beginning of each of second and third parts, which gave it an over 'clunky' feel. It would have worked better as one complete story and as each 'book' was relatively short, I don't know why it was a trilogy. (unless it was to get more money ??)

Three stars. I liked it. I wish I could have liked it more, but I felt there was something missing.

Wish there was more

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the narrator, author or publisher."

I really enjoyed this story and would have enjoyed following the characters in much more detail. I also would have enjoyed learning how "master" and Julie take their relationship to the next level.

Well written if a bit too short :)

Good read

Any additional comments?

The Good Master Trilogy by Joy Zelig was a good read. He doesn't want to let Darla go but he knows its the best thing for her. Little does he know Darla will also give him a gift in Grace.

Pretty Hot Stuff

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

This was a good story and quite erotic with sex scenes, however, it did jump around, and I had to back track a few times to see if I had missed something. I had a bit of a hard time following it.
