Publisher's summary

Brittany Callaghan thinks she's dreaming when a blond, nearly seven-feet-tall Nordic god shows up on her doorstep in her tiny California town. He claims to be a barbarian warrior in need of her help.

Though a stunning, statuesque beauty herself, intelligent and independent Brittany has struggled hard to earn respect in a man's world. She is taken aback when Dalden, a spectacular Viking who is a long way from home, needs her help - and is willing to pay for it. He's had Brittany's blood running red-hot since she first saw him, and warrior or not, she agrees to help him.

As bold and brash as she is beautiful, Brittany isn't going to be subservient to any man, even one who is everything she ever wanted in a lover, and whose very touch sets her senses afire. Dalden is a warrior to the depths of his soul - proud, powerful and brave - a man who will fight fearlessly and relentlessly for what he wants. And now, what he wants most of all is Brittany....

"Add a smart-mouthed computer, the burgeoning passion between the oh-so-different protagonists, and Heart of a Warrior offers a wild romp that only Lindsey could write. Fasten your seat belts and relish the ride!" (Amazon.com review)

Not the beginning of the trio

I know that this author is most well known for her historical romances and I think that's why a lot of reviewers are disappointed - they aren't getting what they're expecting. However, if you do like romances in a sci-fi sense, this is a good one.

The only nit-picky thing I have to say is that the narrator tends to make our main guy sound like a robot.

One other thing - this isn't the first book in this trio ... it's actually the last. Readers may not be used to the world yet if they haven't read the first two books. I read them a few years ago, they're well worth it and I hope they show up here sometime soon.

Enjoyable as a book, but not when narrated...

Would you try another book from Johanna Lindsey and/or Laural Merlington?

I have read and own every Johanna Lindsey book published, and a few on audible as well. I expected to enjoy this much more than I actually did. Laurel Merlington has done "okay" jobs on other Lindsey novels but when narrating the parts of the male main character her voice takes on an almost robot"ish" tone. Also, even though this is fantasy/romance many of the words in the book seem mispronounced, and I have caught a few that are in fact mispronounced (example: Challen, Tedra's lifemate is supposed to be pronounced as Challenge without the G. If you put as much emphasis on detail as I do this will annoy you too much to enjoy having someone else narrate for you. I was unable to enjoy this purchase, and find I am unable to complete the listening experience.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The narrator.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Male main character had a robot"ish" voice that ruined the reading for me, and some words were, and seemed to be mispronounced.

Did Heart of a Warrior inspire you to do anything?

I was unable to finish the experience.

Any additional comments?

Is a refund possible?

dissappointed

Well I wish I had listened to the reviews. Not in the slightest what I was expecting. I found the plot rather boring and the main girl half the time acting tough and half the time acting like a southern belle who will faint at the drop of a hat :(
Narration was good EXCEPT for our main man which yes she very very much makes him sound like a robot.

Sadly I wish I hadn't wasted the money buying this one or the time listening to it

to many ' feelings'. more please.

where are the other two? with the same vocalist, please. it's like these books were made for the way she reads them.

the repetition of the word 'feelings ' may make you 'feel' something unpleasant. heroin is impressively stubborn. if you have read the first two books you'll probally understand more, though the author does a good job of explaining things without rehashing everything.

really would like the other two books, please.

Hard to follow.

Where does Heart of a Warrior rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

I normally love all of Johanna Lindsey's books and own many of them but this was a bit complicated. There was a lot of explanation in the 1st chapter and I kept waiting for the story to start. It eventually does and gets better.

Blah!

This is not what I expected from a Johanna Lindsey book - it was as if she was attempting to add a fantasy element, but it just didn't work - not her genre.

UGH!

I love Johanna Lindsey's books, especially the Malory novels. But I cannot imagine what she was thinking with this book. The heroine is so stupid and annoying that I just have to stop listening for a while. After everything that she has seen she is still denying that what she sees is true and not some type of trick. Why would anyone go to the trouble of pulling such an elaborate hoax on her? To what end? I can barely stand it! I am going to finish this book(I think) because I just know it will redeem itself in the end? But this is definitely one that I will not listen to again. Give us another Malory book and ditch the Warrior!

Awful accents

I love Johanna Lindsey books but the narration just ruined this one for me. The robotic voice of the hero was totally off putting, but the actual computerised characters, (who probably should have sounded robotic), plus all of the Ly San Ter family’s accents shifted, disconcertingly, from bad Italian, Spanish, Welsh, Scottish, English and Irish from sentence to sentence. I found that I was trying to figure out the accent changes rather than being able to concentrate on the actual story. Soooo disappointed!!

Narrator a bit off putting

Enjoyed the book to a point, although found it a bit strange. The narrator with the voices was a bit off putting.

Terrible narrator

I wanted to tell the narrator to Shut Up, that's how annoying I found her voice.

Grating narration

I don’t like giving bad reviews but this was terrible! The narration was so bad I think I only got an hour into the story and just couldn’t listen anymore. The hero sounds like a Dr Who Dalek. Very robotic with no inflection. I’m going to buy the book instead of listening to the rest in audible but I’m afraid it will be a bit boring, so far it’s just dribbled on ( not sure if the story is mind numbing or if the narration just ruins everything) I usually like all of JL’s books but this has been disappointing. 😢
