Publisher's Summary

This is what happened: I met him at the candy store. He turned and smiled at me and I was surprised enough to smile back. This was not a children's candy store, mind you, this was the kind of place you went to buy expensive imported chocolate truffles for your boss' wife because you felt guilty for having sex with him when you were both at a conference in Milwaukee.

Hypothetically speaking, of course. I've been hit on plenty of times, mostly by men with little finesse who thought what was between their legs made up for what they lacked between their ears. Sometimes I went home with them anyway, just because it felt good to want and be wanted, even if it was mostly fake. The problem with wanting is that it's like pouring water into a vase full of stones. It fills you up before you know it, leaving no room for anything else.

I don't apologize for who I am or what I've done in or out of bed. I have my job, my house, and my life, and for a long time I haven't wanted anything else. Until Dan. Until now.

Lives up to it's title

I could have gone either way on this book, but in the end it won me over. If you are squeamish about explicit sex, this isn't the story for you. However, there was something about the lead female character that appealed to me despite the serious issues she struggled with. The lead male character was particularly yummy; not only was he sexy, but he showed amazing insight in sifting through Elle's hang-ups and went to great lengths to to fulfill her needs.

This was my first Megan Hart novel, and though I have since read others, I think it is her best.

I thought this book was a fun listen, although the narrarator is a little anoying with her voices.

Disappointed

I enjoyed the beginning, but the story seemed to drag. I lost interest about 3/4 way through the book and stopped reading. Plus, the narrator was great for the protagonist, but horrible for the man. The narrator's male voice impersonation sounded like an old man who smoked cigarettes. Another big turn off.

Tale of a shallow girl told by a terrible narrator

The story is mediocre with the primary female (El) an annoying 2 dimensional, self-centered girl who is terribly uninteresting opposite the primary male (Dan) who play-acts as a dominant giving orders 'because she wants to do what he says'. To make matters worse the narrator is fingernails-on-chalk board irritating. Her normal speaking voice and female characters are not bad though her phrasing is poor; the real tragedy is that her male voices are atrocious - they all sound like 3 pack-a-day for 20 year types.

more than I bargained for and not in a good way

When I purchased this book, I thought I was getting only romance. There is more to this book than that. The main character has endured molestation from a brother and 10 years later, she is trying to come to terms with it. Although I don't like my romance with such sad themes, I have to say that this book was well written and insightful. I think it shows how a person could possibly deal or not deal with such an ordeal. If you are looking for something light and fun, this isn't it. If you like your romance with a side of horrible past, this is the one you are looking for.

Elle's just a very unlikeable character

I listened to this whole book, hoping at some point I would end up caring something for Elle. I never did, She comes across as a real B***ch, that I can't feel a bit of compassion for. She treats Dan, her sex interest, like dirt, and what he sees in her, is beyond me. He wastes so much time caring for her, but she just doesn't come across as deserving of his attention, with all the rejection she hits him with.
She has a bad history, but instead of dealing with it years ago, she has just become bitter and hateful to anyone that tries to help her. Unfortunately, this goes on and on, through the whole book.
The narration for Elle is probably the only voice that sounds normal. The other characters sound like munchkins, or little kids. That also, made it a hard listen for me.
At any rate, it's just not very entertaining.

WOW! What a Story

This was my first time reading Megan Hart and WOW I am a fan!

Dirty is not a light read. It has depth to it and it retains a very erotic edge.

Elle repressed heroine with no color in her wardrobe, no joy in her life. A typical background for such a woman. A hero destined to drag her out of her bleak existence. You've seen it all before, right? Not even close.

Elle is one of the most complex, real characters I've ever read. She diverges from stereotype in unique ways, and resolution is not only difficult to find, it's as complex as the character. At the end of the book you know she still has a lot of work to do...but the most important element of any book for me, hope, is there in spades.

This book isn't a romance, per se, because the focus is on more than the male/female relationship. But it's also the epitome of romance because it's about falling in love and doing the hard work such a fall requires.

This book really had an impressive storyline and I felt like I was on Elle life roller coaster seeing all the up and downs. Megan Hart you have impressed me.

Addicted!

Any additional comments?

All I have to say is that I am addicted to all of her books so far! I have started from her first book and just went in order by the release date. So far I am at "Deeper"....haven't read it yet, but I know I will love it as much as the others!

'DIRTY' blows 50 SHADES Outta' the Water

I have listened to this book multiple times long before 50 Shades. After reading a GOOD, well constructed story, I wanted more of Megan Hart's writing.
This book is erotic, romantic and will bring a tear to the eye. Along with including a sensitive social subject, the incredibly sexy story will definitely knock your socks off.

Read the 2nd book of the series, "BROKEN" and the 3rd "STRANGER" and enjoy the repeat appearance of character. When I read the 2nd book 'Broken', I realized Elle was talking to her physiologist as the story is told in the book. I didn't realize this until I got to the 2nd book. I love the psychological part of this book.

If you want a well written, intelligent book with great characters and erotic scenes, THIS is the book for you!!!!! Buy all 3 books for steamy summer reads!
(the narrator was great except for a couple of male voices were a bit strange) Spend your Credits on 3 books that ARE the whole package.
