Publisher's Summary

I will return to you....

Sixteen-year-old Lady Brandice Townsend fears that Lord Quentin's promise may be impossible to keep. He's about to depart for the battlefield, leaving his adoring friend and his genteel life behind. Four years later, with London's most eligible suitors fawning at her feet, Brandi rejects life in the capital to return to the simple country haven she loves. But Emerald Manor is no longer a welcoming refuge, and tragedy strikes without warning. When he went to fight Napoleon, Quentin had a premonition of doom. Now, his world shattered by his parents’ violent death, the grief-stricken soldier must unravel a tangled web of secrets and lies. But it is Brandi whose safety he prizes above all else - Brandi, who has grown into a passionate, desirable woman. He fears she'll never be his again, unless he can unmask the truth and risk everything for love.

Very enjoyable!

Altho the narration wasn't great it wasn't bad enough for me to stop listening. The main lady character sounded too much like a little girl but also, on the other hand, it fit her character...what can I say, you'll either love her voice, get thru it, at times enjoy it, or hate it. Some of the proclamations of love were a bit silly (could be my age), but overall the book was indeed enjoyable enough for me to stick with it to the very happy ending. It's worth listening to being that it's a freebie (some books are so awful, even free doesn't work, altho' I ALWAYS appreciate Audible for letting us listen to some free books! Thank you Audible!). Worth taking a chance on. Personal taste will decide if you keep listening or not. I did love ALL the characters, especiallythe loving servants, + the twist & turns, wondering who did it, story that kept me on the edge of my seat. It was a fun book that did have me chuckling quite a bit. Oh to be as happy & carefree as this young lady was in her life! I am too old & jaded by life to think anyone can be that happy anymore, but it was fun to listen to her joy. Oh to step back in time & be as happy, young, & carefree as she was/is in this book!! Enjoyable-yes!

Narration

Good story but I struggled with the voices of the main characters. They sounded like they belonged in a pantomime. Very overdone and extremely distracting. Ruined the book for me

Enjoyable

A good story. I was engaged until the end. Brandi was spirited and likeable, and certainly not as annoyingly headstrong nor foolishly drawn to danger as other Regency female leads I've read/listened to.

The narrator did a good job this time around. Some of her intonations were a tad irritating, particularly when the main protagonists were hatching plans or making deductions, however, again not as distracting as other stories narrated by this particular narrator.

Enjoyable

Well written for the time period. Good themes and characters. Narrator matched the story line.
