Im Herbst 1992 wird die langjährige prominente Grünen-Politikerin Petra Kelly unter bis heute nicht völlig geklärten Umständen von ihrem Lebensgefährten Gert Bastian im Schlaf erschossen; anschließend tötet er sich selbst. Alice Schwarzers ausgesprochen detailreich recherchiertes und dennoch sehr spannend geschriebenes Buch widmet sich der ungewöhnlichen Beziehung zwischen der Friedensaktivistin und dem ehemaligen Generalmajor der Bundeswehr und beleuchtet besonders deren tragisches Ende.
Schwarzer nimmt dabei keine einseitig feministisch geprägte Analyse vor, sondern ist sichtlich um Objektivität und Unparteilichkeit bemüht und zeichnet voller psychologischem Gespür und menschlicher Einfühlung ein sehr plausibles Bild der komplexen Beziehung und der vielschichtigen Charaktere dieser beiden außergewöhnlichen Menschen sowie der tragischen Tat, die ihrer beider Leben ein Ende gesetzt hat. Dabei wendet sich Schwarzer gegen alle Versuche, den Mord oder erweiterten Suizid zu einem gemeinsamen "Liebestod" zu stilisieren, und macht vielmehr die Genese dieser "tödlichen Liebe" auf bedrückende Weise nachvollziehbar. Ein im guten Sinne "verstörendes" Buch und noch immer ein Werk von höchster politischer Aktualität.
Alice Sophie Schwarzer, am 3. Dezember 1942 in Wuppertal geboren, ist eine deutsche Journalistin und Publizistin. Als Gründerin und Herausgeberin der Frauenzeitschrift "Emma" ist sie eine der bekanntesten Vertreterinnen der deutschen Frauenbewegung. Nach dem Besuch der Handelsschule arbeitete sie einige Jahre im kaufmännischen Bereich. Nach einem zweijährigen Parisaufenthalt kehrte sie 1965 nach Deutschland zurück. 1969 ging sie als Reporterin zur Zeitschrift "Pardon". Von 1970 bis 1974 arbeitete sie in Paris als freie politische Korrespondentin für Radio, Fernsehen und Zeitschriften. Im gleichen Zeitraum studierte sie ohne Abschluss an der Universität Vincennes Psychologie und Soziologie, unter anderem bei Michel Foucault, und freundete sich mit Simone de Beauvoir und Jean-Paul Sartre an.
Ihr 1975 erschienenes Buch "Der kleine Unterschied und seine großen Folgen", ein Plädoyer für freie Sexualität und die ökonomische Unabhängigkeit für Frauen, machte Schwarzer über Deutschland hinaus bekannt. Seitdem - und verstärkt seit Gründung der Zeitschrift "Emma" 1977 - gilt sie als die bekannteste und auch umstrittenste Persönlichkeit der neuen deutschen Frauenbewegung, die eine Vielzahl von Büchern publiziert hat und nach wie vor eine starke Medienpräsenz zeigt.
