another great book by J pal

this is my second book by this author the first one is the first book in his card tower series a d honestly this one is just as unique and interesting. I hope we get more of both! and I'll be checking another of his books out soon!

Interesting and I’ll keep listening but…

It’s interesting and I like it. But the magic system is a bit confusing to listen to. I’ve read some Asian novels that use these start like systems but it’s much easier when it’s a comic… but if you just want to sort of understand and not worry about it too much its enjoyable to go with the flow. Also I like that the MC is morally grey and that it’s a pretty dark background. But it’s not super well developed in some of the storyline parts and is a bit rushed/convenient in some areas but the world building is really nice and unique if you want something not too dark and it’s treated kind of nonchalant and middle of the pack without brushing it off. As in the MC has a conscience but in the face of his life goal he is willing to do what it takes. Also potions are just cool 😎 so I’d like this book anyway 😂

I really enjoyed listening/reading this book by J Pal. And I loved it!!!

I almost always enjoy reading a book by J Pal and listening to Eric Jason Martin's narration is always pleasurable. I loved this story it's like a Mage school and a slice-of-life adventure got married and made this fine story. But don't get me wrong there's plenty of action too. Where Nox and his very strange best friend Willin finally get the break they needed to get stronger, and both of 'em were accepted by a famous magic school, Woodson University... but they're not gonna be walkin' down easy street either as they need to find a way to make enough money to pay the exorbitant tuition fees. And don't even get me started on the family, his brothers as they're out to get 'em.

A Fantastic, Original Story

This was a refreshing take on the litRPG genre! The story starts out slowly and continues to build momentum throughout. I really enjoyed the unique system that the characters use to advance, and the blend of progression fantasy and litRPG elements went together flawlessly. The main character, as you can quickly tell from the cover, is an alchemist - but that has nothing to do with his system progression. While he is working separately to grow his system abilities, he is constantly working on his alchemical skills through study and invention. That isn't to say he doesn't use his system abilities to enhance his creations, but the duality of the classical fantasy progression and litRPG progression gives the story a very fresh and fun feel. Much of the story takes place in as realistic a university environment as you could expect in a fantasy world, which helps a lot to take it away from the typical fantasy wizard-school genre. The supporting cast was very well done and I enjoyed the different character arcs and twists!

Martin's narration was very good. At first, it was a little jarring with his unique style, but in no time at all I was used to it and found it was done in a pace that went well with the attitude of the main character. It really gave the right atmosphere for the story.

great start to a series!

I've never been much of a reader but this series was awesome! can't wait for the 4th to come out!

Not sure I'll continue

This was okay, but tanked hard for me in the last chapter. I didn't buy the relationship with his mother in the end, and after everything he went through, accepting the 'gift' felt like swallowing ash.

He almost rescued it by realising she was weak, but then rolled it all back by accepting her gift. it felt like a betrayal of the character Pal had spent the entire book building - one fiercely independent and prideful.

Anabel is also nothing burger character. Relationships in stories are always iffy for me, because you have to make me believe the protagonist is genuinely attracted... and Pal didn't.

I'm not sure I'll continue this. Usually the progression is what keeps me going for stories like this I don't particularly love, but even that is turned boring and tedious - literally school work.

Just not great.

Unique magic system.

Good story, magic system is unique. had a decent story line, and waiting for the next book.

Unique story with the worst narrator

The story is a unique take on traditional litrpg tropes with an excellent magic system and somewhat weak but compelling characters. However I will have to switch to print for this series as Eric is downright the worst narrator I've managed to make it through.

Love the concept

A twist midway through really made this book stand out. Love the characters created. Great set up for a series.

Mature take on Litrpg

I am glad that I gave this one a try. It is a combination of other lore from different litrpg but with the author's twist. If you are looking for a more level headed, adult and smart MC. Try this out.
