A Warhammer Horror audiobook

A disgraced warrior-priest who prowls the Greywater Fastness is forced to confront his past when a message from an old friend sends him on a perilous quest. In an isolated village full of untrusting souls, his darkest secrets threaten to come to light.

Listen to It Because:

Explore a corner of the Mortal Realms full of dangerous characters and dark secrets in a tale by Josh Reynolds, master of the sinister.

The Story:

Harran Blackwood was a Warrior-Priest of ruthless virtue. Now he's a man with a scorched reputation, prowling the back alleys of Greywater Fastness, content to fight the petty wars of racketeers for survival. But when a desperate message arrives from an old friend, Blackwood is forced to confront a past he thought long buried.

Summoned to the isolated village of Wald, Blackwood sets off on a perilous trek to ensure the sins of his former life remain forgotten. He soon discovers that Wald is a hostile, secretive place with sins of its own. Deep in the murky marshes, where the cruel chants of village folk echo and the stink of death hovers low, Blackwood must channel his bitterness and rage to defy the ancient darkness that now hunts him before he is devoured, body and soul.

I have been a fan of GW novels and games since the 80’s. I am truly not a fan of the recent conversion of the old world to something that looks like 40k, but is steampunk. That said, this was an excellent story with an excellent reader. The voice at first seems a little over done, but in time it grows on you. The story itself is in the old tradition, and was quite good as both a fantastic story and as horror fiction (left you wondering).

Excellent story of the old world, even in the age of sigmarines

I am more of a Warhammer 40k fan than Warhammer, so I didn't know almost anything about this realm of fiction. As a result, I was a bit lost for the 1st chapter or 2. But as the book continued, I was pleased to find that the author, Josh Reynolds, was still doing very good work in the fantasy genre's of horror in addition to league grim and darkness of the 41st millennium.

The book almost felt like some sort of 16th century noir. The descriptions of the environment and feel of the story were evocative.

I finished this audio book in maybe 2 1/2 days, maybe less.

I must admit that the reader took a bit of getting used to, but by the end, I had really come to enjoy his performance.

This book just calls out for further novels incorporating the main character.

hold on, it builds up!

Like fantasy? Like horror? Like action? Like Lovecraft-like vibes of hopeless insignificance? Look no further than Dark Harvest. Honestly, this is the best written Warhammer fantasy I've encountered, it's such a refreshing feeling to be taken away from the overblown Horus Heresy, ridiculously unimaginative fantasy Space Marine Stormcast and worn out Inquisitor trend. To simply be brought back to the old school man versus monster idea.
Narration was awesome, Jake Urry matches character and setting to perfection.

Stunning work.

I loved the narrator and the flow of the character, though the background story was odd. Though odd, it did not ruin the overall book.

Always moving, ok story line

I love this book. I've gone through it multiple times.

I don't even play warhammer.
It is a sold novel on its own. You pick up what you need to know.

Not a story for the faint of heart, but one I thoroughly enjoyed! This story was an absolute joy to listen to, and I would love to hear more about the epic adventures and downfall of Haran Blackwood! Packed with action, suspense, a fair bit of comedic moments, and a good dose of grindhouse-style horror! I was almost brought to tears towards the end, and am really praying for a series to be made of this amazing character! "How about a game of cards?" 10/10! Major props to both the narrator and the author!

A Dark Swamp-town mystery!

Everyone had the same voice. I honestly didn't know who's what and where's who like 50% of the time. The parts I did understand made for interesting, albeit violent, story.
