A Warhammer Horror novel

On the mean streets of Altdorf, Guard Captain 'Filthy Harald' Kleindeist investigates a series of gruesome murders that take him into the upper echelons of Imperial society and expose horrors beyond imagining.

It's a classic Warhammer murder mystery that delves into the darkness behind the Imperial aristocracy as well as the horrors to be found in the poorest districts of Altdorf.

The story

In the Imperial capital of Altdorf, a killer stalks the streets. Nicknamed 'The Beast' by those who have seen the remains of his victims, all evidence points to the haughty members of the Imperial court, the wealthy and privileged who are a law unto themselves.

Worth the credit for it!

Absolutely has that odd ‘Old World’ sense of style from the first Genevieve novel, Drachenfels, and is shared with Gotrek and Felix. My only complaint is that the title is misleading in that it said it’s a Genevieve novel, and yet Genevieve herself is treated as merely a background character, with only a couple minor scenes between her and Detlef Sierch. I’m not saying that she had to be in every scene in the book, but it would’ve done just as well as a stand-alone title on its own merit without her making a guest appearance. Other than that, the book was awesome

Outstanding!

A full-on political thriller and spine-tingling chiller, Ms. Newman keeps rocking every wing of the literary house.

Fun book easy to listen along

I liked this one a lot. Didn’t listen to it with all my attention but it was really atmospheric and I could follow along easy enough. Not sure someone would be able to even write this story with everything being under the political magnifier these days.

I just wish there had been more...

Odd to think that this along with the other 'Jack Yeovil' novels are now 30 odd years old. One of the best horror fantasy... let alone Warhammer... stories ever written. Have to say that I even enjoyed Antonia Beamish's narration this time around.

Fun but a bit deceptive

This is a great book if you enjoy mysteries but if you're reading this for Genevieve you'll be disappointed. She doesn't spend much time in the story. But it's a good detective story trying to find out who done it.

Not what I was expecting, but not bad

So let me be clear, this is NOT a vampire Genevieve book. It's a very good Warhammer mystery/horror book but not in the Genevieve series. She is only in the book for a hand full of pages and had no impact on the story. Other than that I can say I did not see the series of resist at the finale and highly recommend.

WH Old World fun

A fun expansion to the Geniveve set of stories. This one focuses on more side characters and would probably be better listened to before some stories in Silver Nails (there are chronological reading lists online you can find), but having listened to it afterwards, there is nothing fully lost by doing so. Detailing the hunt for "The Beast" by Filthy Harold and Baron Von Mecklenburg, you will only be left wishing there was more of these characters, but alas, these stories are decades old and no more will likely be forthcoming.

Oh wow.

It was a fun Gothic horror/mystery murder story. Though I came here expecting another Genevieve story, instead I had gotten these unfamiliar characters. With Genevieve essentially having a small cameo. By the end I ended up liking the characters and the story

false advertising and far left politics

the vampire Genevieve is only included here to get you to buy this poorly done murder mystery. the story drags and the characters while sometimes interesting will bore you most of the time. the only reason I'm giving the overall two stars is because the author actually included some interesting real life references. oh and don't bother guessing who the murderer is because got to subvert those expectations.

wore him or horror had a lot of promise. books like this show that that promise will never happen. save your time and your money hard skip.

Interesting story

It was a bit dark for my taste and sometimes it was difficult to understand what was going on because there were so many characters, but it all made sense by the end of the book which left me absolutely flabbergasted! Therefore, I might listen to the second book in the series just to find out what will happen to some of the characters.

A marvellous mystery

In this book, we enjoy a taste of conflict between socio-economic classes, of gritty and mature themes, and a curiosity to fuel one's drive to finish the story. I must make clear that Genevieve is more of a cameo in this novel, than an impactful character to this story. This story also takes place "before" the events of the preceeding novel.

I couldn't enjoy it

Way too many "main characters".
Too many storylines.
Many many wierd names.
When I started to enjoy a line it jumped to another line.
Sorry about it, the beginning was ok, I can say good/promising, but after it become enjoying.
