While attempting to abduct a teenager from her home, sadistic serial killer Victor Brooks meets his match: ten 9mm bullets. In a puddle of his own blood, sprawled across a stranger’s kitchen floor, Victor’s life begins to flash before his very eyes. He sees the living and the dead, peace and carnage, friends and foes, success and disappointment, love and hatred. He sees a life defined by rage, suffering, and despair. The light at the end of Victor's tunnel is red—red with blood.

Jon Athan, the author of "The Groomer" and "Are Your Parents Home?," takes you on a journey through a serial killer’s life—from death to adolescence—in one of his bleakest, most disturbing novels to date. This is the making of a serial killer. This is the story of a man damned from birth.

Jon Athan does a fantastic job in peeling back the layers of what should just be a monster. And he is a monster, one that is obviously not justified based on his upbringing. And yet, it's possibly one of the more human splatterpunk novels. It has cliches yes, but the framing makes the second half more sad than anything while still retaining the ultraviolence

Simple, but compelled

Jon athan is the author who really reeled me into extreme horror and each piece he writes is just the best 👌

Outstanding

This has been one of my absolute favorite releases by Jon Athan, and I love all of his books. I love the progression of this story from the end of Vic’s life all the way back to the beginning, it is a heart wrenching view into the life of a terrible, twisted man who was once a helpless and innocent boy. The only thing I would add as a criticism was that it was a little hard to keep track of the time jumps. Loved this!

Heart wrenching

Wonderful story. Sympathy for the main character grows, despite his horrendous acts. Backwards from point of destruction.

Most excellent story

Another book that was hyped ub by user ratings, that I bought with a credit on a whim. The story was bleak that starts at his death and recounts his journey year by year. Which was an interesting concept, but instead of this guy being an anti-hero, we are subjugated to all his trauma that made him who he was. It's a recount to how he became who he was to the point of his undoing. I didn't like the MC from the start of the book to the abuse he endured when he was young. There's no silverlinings in this book, you just get to be a part of his horrible mental state. Even the erotic scenes were hard to listen to if you came here for that. There was no repreave from the constant suffering of the MC, A hard listen, interesting concept, but not much to go on other than abuse after abuse. The torture scenes went on for too long and added nothing to the story or motivations. I'd skip this one splatterpunk fans. Hey brother, we know each other, let's kill this woman because we're brothers. Okay brother?

As a splatter punk guy, I didn't enjoy this
