Resumen del Editor

What would you do to protect your family?

Keith Klein, a beat cop in the small New Mexico town of Montaño, sets out to find his missing daughters after they vanish on their way home from school. He enlists the help of Gerald Greenwood, an old friend and a private investigator. When their investigation stalls and desperation creeps in, Keith’s methods become unorthodox, illegal, and extremely violent.

Meanwhile, Keith’s daughters, 14-year-old Carrie and eight-year-old Allison, witness horrors beyond imagination at the Wolves’ Den, a house in the middle of nowhere. In that house, a group of psychopaths in animal masks produce snuff films and other disturbing content for clients across the globe.

Jon Athan, the provocative author behind Dr. Sadist and Lovesick, delivers another dark and disturbing horror novel filled with mystery, suspense, and gore. Can you handle a visit to the Wolves’ Den?

Warning: This novel contains graphic content. Listener discretion is advised.

Love a good revenge story

Pretty good. Could have developed the characters a bit more. That will come with more writing.

Disgustedly Good...

I will say that if you can't take horror, gruesome, inhumane acts towards kids DO NOT listen to this. I have a kid and it was hard to listen to this but THIS story was very realistic. There are sick people out there and I listen to stories like this as a reminder to always look after your kids. Do not be so trusting of your neighborhood or your surroundings. You can never be an overprotective parent in my book. I loved the revenge that Keith delivered and to me it was justified!

In my top 3 favorite authors

I’ve read a bunch of his books. All fantastic. Lovesick is my favorite but this was good too. Next, The Abuse of Ashley Collins.

Graphically detailed, but OMG the narration...

Full disclosure: This is my first Jon Athan story so my review is mostly focused on the narrator and perhaps a bit on the writing style.
First off, I love Splatterpunk stories, true crime and the like. I'd heard of the author in one of the podcasts I listen to and decided to check him out. I selected this particular story primarily because of the ratings then the synopsis to close the deal.

The story starts off well enough, 'November 1996', a small boarder town somewhere in New Mexico with all the charm of a village, in the mid 90's well before cellphone's were issued at birth, John Stammos was a thing, and unsuspecting movie watchers went to see Space Jam. About 5 minutes in after setting the back story the narrator seems to change the tone and tempo of his reading. around 7 minutes I knew this was going to be a long journey, but i stayed committed.

At the 7 minute mark I had to pause, because it also happens to be when the the villains strike, so I thought it best to take a break and dive in fresh. After walking around a bit, some coffee and a pastry I returned and hit play. The narration was done in a way that that grates the ears, a slowww reading where each word was spoken with even slower tempo. I honestly don't know if the writer conjugated (like ever) or compounded or used any grammatical short cuts because the narrator read every single word ---in---a---tem-po---much---like---this, and with inflections that sounded like, well not quite Boston and not quite Manhattan, Connecticut maybe? (shrug) .

Once your ears and mind become numb to the sound of dying cats, the story read/felt/sounded like the author or editor was really trying to convert raw and undisciplined story telling into a book.

Now let me clarify; the above is a first impression and not a critical review, more like a moderate or neutral review overall.

Ok think back to old cartoons - big dog, little dog... big dog is the dumb brute, little dog is the brains and speaks intelligently (for a dog), but the big dog is dumb, slow, reta.....slow and the way he speaks sounds like 'uh whhhhhuere diddy go, George, wherediddygo!!!' That's what the narrator sounds like.

Story - graphic, author is able to paint the picture of abuse and cruelty, the reader can taste the blood as it flies off the bat as it swings back to bash a skull. As the title picture suggests, there are children involved, and really bad stuff happens to them, but Athan tastefully describes some very cruel acts executed by some very very sick characters who aren't too far from reality.

Graphic Violence and Rape

All I can say is heed the warning that comes with this audible. The violence, murder, torture are extreme and discribed in graphic detail. There are children kidnapped and forced into this violent world. If any of this offends you don't listen. If you enjoy this type of fictional horror, like I do, then this book is exactly what you want. Although what is done to children in this book was more than even I could take. A. morbid curiosity had me listening.

Kudos to the narrator for being able to do a good job with this book.

I received a free copy of this audible at my request. All thoughts and opinions expressed in my review are strictly my own.

Utterly disturbing!!!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

If you are disturbed easily, even if you think you can hand rough material, please use caution!! I had to stop several times with this book. The matter of the book is very hard to digest.

Though this book is a work of fiction, the content involve things that sadly and disturbingly happen every day in our real world. It's very hard to not be able to dismiss it as a simple horror novel.

With that said. As a novel, it was very well written. The narration was very well done.

As a mother myself, I absolutely felt for the parents and was behind the father.

Truly disturbing, not for the faint of heart. Well written and leaves you an emotional train wreck!!

Needs a different narrator

the story deserved to be read with passion..a good narrator would have made the reader feel the heartbreak, the terror..the emotion!
this did not

I'm really torn...

I love me a good violent, crazy, catharic story. That said, the reader sounds like he had speech-therapy with a robot... Then got his masters in reading to other learning-impaired robots.
I understand a little enunciation, but this is effing ridiculous. I am really interested in listening to more of Jon Athan's stories but not with the same reader. Loved the ride, but not the voice that gave it.
