Publisher's summary

Miss Lucy Bertram is content to spend her days writing scientific articles or curling up with a Gothic romance novel. Indeed, she'd rather stick a hatpin in her eye than attend a ball.

But when her father, the eccentric botanist Sir Oswald, insists she accept the suit of a wealthy but stiffer-than-a-poker industrialist to save the family from penury, Lucy decides to act. She's certain her disowned brother, Monty, will take her side. But first she must find him in St. Giles's cutthroat rookeries.

A covert agent for the Crown, William Lockhart, the Earl of Kyle, is on the hunt for a ruthless killer determined to destroy the Linnean Society. Sir Oswald, a botanical poisons expert, is the prime suspect. Posing as a groom in the baronet's household, it shouldn't take Will long to unearth the evidence Scotland Yard needs. If only the beguiling Miss Bertram wasn't so damn distracting…

As an unexpected but undeniable passion flares between Lucy and Will, confidences are exchanged and dark secrets come to light. But will a murderer, determined to stay hidden, destroy their chances of finding a happy-ever-after?

not worth the credit.

I LOVE ARB but this book not up to par with her other books. the narrator was awful. her male voice was like a 13 year old boy who has not gone through puberty. someone please tell her how to say the word "girl"...I was so excited to see a new Amy Rose Bennett book but this was not great.

A sweet story

Historical romances always leave me in a good mood. This one is no different. There is romance, murder and plenty of family drama. I am patiently waiting for Jane’s story to be available on audible.

Need a better narrato

The story i great but the narrator abounded like a little child and the Scottish accent sounded like she had marbles in her mouth. Really bad. However, the story was good enough to put up with the narrator.

okay worst narrator ever

oh my God! this voice ruined this series for me I'm buying the rest on Kindle. besides the fact that listening to Minnie mouse mispronounce easy common words is excruciatingly painful. but her voice for the heroin makes her sound like she's 5 years old it's disgusting. to be wanton, is not to be Chinese soup or an hors d'oeuvre i.e won ton!!! and the slang for the word girl is gel with a soft g like gorgeous not jel as in a hair product!!! seriously worst narrator ever oh yeah and a banyan ( a robe or wrap) is not a bunion...... seriously seriously ew!!! if you can get past listening to a 5-year-old Minnie mouse it's a great story just the right amount of everything in it but the narrator ruins it.

I loved it.

The only thing I would change is the reader. I wish readers wouldn’t try so hard, if this reader told the story in a normal voice it would have been 100% better. Will’s accent was awful and Lucy sounded like a 5 year old child. A more sultry tone would have made it so much better. Regardless, it was a great story.

Curled Up with an Earl

I had a hard time listening to the narrator’s, wispy, fake, over high voice. It was very irritating!

Not worth a credit

The high girly voice of the narrator really didn’t work and the book was incredibly boring. I rarely feel this way about regency romances. I can listen to some pretty slow stuff, but this one was really over the top. Lucy was absolutely tedious. The first half of the book was really really hard. The villain was painfully obvious. The last 1/3 picked up a little but I found my mind constantly wandering. I really really enjoyed the first one. Not sure I would spend the money on Jane’s story, especially if narrated by Higgins again. She sounds like a 12 year old. Hero had some real potential but somehow the whole thing just sputtered out around him. Ugh Lucy. Not a bad person or a nasty person or anything like that just too shy and her inner monologue was just totally boring. Not sure what else to say.
