Cthulhu Armageddon is the story of a world 100 years past the rise of the Old Ones which has been reduced to a giant monster-filled desert and pockets of human survivors (along with Deep Ones, ghouls, and other "talking" monsters).
John Henry Booth is a ranger of one of the largest remaining city-states when he's exiled for his group's massacre and the suspicion that he's "tainted". Escaping with a doctor who killed her husband, John travels across the Earth's blasted alien ruins to seek the life of the man who killed his friends.
It's the one thing he has left.

Good but characters mimic other books

The book is one part adventure, one part military sci-fi but really succeeds where it very artfully and respectfully injects Lovecraftian lore into he world giving it a thrilling and ominous feel.
It is a slightly campy revenge romp chalk with combat, gunplay and adventure. I enjoyed it through and through.
as an aside: If this concept wasn't spawned from the campaign setting of the author's tabletop sessions then I think we would all be remis if we didn't use it in our own. It would make a wonderful campaign world.
A fun adaptation of the Cthulhu mythos

Set hundreds of years after the rising of the Great Old Ones, the remnants of humanity cling to life across a vast desert that used to be Middle America. The story begins by following a squad of R&E Rangers, led by our intrepid hero John Booth, investigating a series of mass kidnappings across the Wasteland. The case leads them to a black cathedral where they face the greatest threat to the last of humanity – outside of the mythical creatures.
What follows is a wild ride of betrayal, deceit and backstabbing as Booth struggles to find meaning and determine why he, of all people, was marked by the Hand of Nyarlathotep, which gives him limited immortality…at a price.
Rangers are out for blood...ok, any bio-mass!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Time spent reading is always well-spent. This was a decent read, and did a nice job of giving all the good parts of the genre plenty of time to play. What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Integrating Lovecraftian elements into a fairly-rote post-apocalyptic fantasy was a nice touch.Any additional comments?
This was obviously a labor of love for a dedicated fan of video games and classic sci-fi. It is well-enough written, with echoes of Gaiman and King. It just never really achieves the level of technical literary proficiency that Neil and Stephen manage to hit.I enjoyed the brutally quick pacing, the fantastic creatures, starkly bleak characters, and creative blending of genres. This was a fun romp, if not an instant classic. I will watch the author, though, because there are moments of real brilliance in this book. Just needs some prosaic polish.
A love letter to post-apocalyptic tropes.
