Publisher's Summary

The best-selling superhero series is now available as a collection.

Gary Karkofsky has always wanted to be a supervillain. Ever since his infamous brother was killed an antihero, he's secretly yearned to gain powers and take over the world. Gary gets his chance when the magical cloak of recently deceased superhero, the Nightwalker, is delivered right to his doorstep. But is he evil enough to be a supervillain? What will his wife think?

Follow Gary as he becomes Merciless: The Supervillain Without MercyTM. Gary will finds himself bouncing from one insane situation to another. Whether its recruiting his ex-girlfriend and a washed up mastermind as henchmen, fighting against villains like the Ice Scream Man, escaping from moon prisons, dealing with zombie apocalypses, or working against the insane president of the United States - Gary is always just barely keeping his head above water.

But maybe the world's worst supervillain can be its best hero. Or at least a passable one.

Hidden political overtones

It started out good with a slightly Amateurish feel. But I gave it a pass because I didn't expect a great epic story any way.
None of the characters really grabbed me bit they were not bad either. The main character really did not have good motivations and the anti hero idea is great but needed to be explored so much more.
Then I hit the second part.
Storyline became more about who had slept with who and what gender they were. The main character becomes a full on feminist and the main story just goes into the background. Then the politics starts.
I had to put it down at that point. I get enough of that on the news.

So much potential in the story, but so much is never realized.

Don't read this review, just go buy it already!

You don't even need to read the rest of this review -- go ahead and buy it. You won't regret it. Most omnibus volumes are a good value, but getting three books of the Supervillainy Saga for the price of one is one hell of a good deal. The Supervillainy Saga is easily one of my favorite series, and there would be no way I'd turn down this bargain.

Supervillainy Saga is a fun, light-hearted parody of the superhero genre that elicits nostalgia for the golden age of comics. It's purposely packed with superhero tropes and comic references yet is still wildly entertaining with a roller-coaster ride of a plotline. However, all the poking-fun at the genre does not prevent it from being a great superhero story (or supervillain story, I suppose), and its satirical approach is fun, clever, and unique; Phipps really enjoys writing Supervillainy Saga, and you can tell that it is a labor of love by someone who has a life-long passion for comics.

Each book in the series gives a new satirical take on a genre of media or pop culture. For example, while the first focuses on comics, heroes, and villains, the second book is full of witty humor and parodies of fantasy, sci-fi, and horror genres. Even with the humor and spoofs, Phipps still manages to make his characters interesting and has created them with unique personalities and interpersonal relationships, which continue to develop throughout each book and narrative arc. It's a rare thing to have such deep and unique characters in a light-hearted comedy series. My favorite thing about the series is that it is full of irreverent comedy, entertaining pop-culture references, and satirical allusion to classic comics; reading or listening to The Supervillainy Saga is a guaranteed way to lift your spirits and make you smile.

The narration is excellent and really brings life to the saga's characters. Jeffrey Kafer is a talented narrator that has really managed to capture (or create) the personality of the primary characters through unique voices and makes this book very entertaining to listen to. I already knew Kafer was an excellent voice actor, so it's even higher praise for me to say that he takes his performance to an all-new level with The Supervillainy Saga. His excellent narration creates tense moments, engaging action scenes, lovable characters (even the villains!), and hilarious dialog. Together, Phipps and Kafer make this book a great success.

Special thanks to C.T. Phipps, who provided me with this book at my request.

Average story but too political.

The story was ok. Not horrible but not stellar. If you want a leftist political view you’ll like the story even more. Personally, I listen to audible books to escape politics. The main bad guy is a thinly, and I mean thinly veiled copy of an ex President that the left can’t stop obsessing about. That and the main character is supposed to be an evil doer but is in actuality a social justice warrior made the story meh for me. I won’t be buying future titles by this author.

Great collection for a great series

I already read the first two books in the series so getting the collection with the third was a no-brainer. CT has a knack for towing the line between superhero action and awesome parody of the genre. his plots will always keep you guessing and his characters will keep you turning the page (or in this case listening for more). If you love traditional superhero stories but when I have a little fun with something new and silly then this is a great place to get started with the series.

One of my favorite series, and Genre!

I was so excited to see the first three books of this series collected into one edition. This story of Gary Karkofsky, a regular guy who is gifted the magical sentient cloak of the deceased Nightwalker, Falconcrest City's greatest superhero. So what does Gary do, become a costumed crime fighter? No way, because that's for chumps! Gary is going to go steal some cash and become a villain, because that is much cooler. So starts the villainous career of Merciless, the Villain Without Mercy. As he collects allies, such as an old flame of his who is now a henchwoman named Red Rising Hood, and former A-list villain El Diablo, Gary expands his horizons, and ends up contending with some of the top tier heroes in the world, to hilarious results. Also, his cloak is something completely different than expected, and comes with certain responsibilities that can spell disaster for the world if he doesn't use his powers. Through the course of the three books, Gary fights some beings so far out of his league as to boggle the mind, but you can't keep a good villain down, so he somehow makes it out alive at least. Filled with snarky humor and great characters, as well as Easter eggs for the author's various other series, this is just a fun listen, which will leave you wanting to listen to the rest of the series.

The narration is handled by Jeffrey Kafer, who just does an amazing job bringing this story to life. He creates unique voices for the various characters, and his narrative pacing is just fantastic. When new characters are introduced, he always manages to differentiate them, and his delivery of the dialogue is just great. Definitely a strength of this series.

A well done political super villainy story.

CT Phipps overall did a good job with this story and start to the series. The characters are fun and the story fits the genre. The only thing that took me out of the story were the clear political messages, especially in the second half. Audio Version: Jeffrey Kafer did a great job.

Bang! Pow@ Zap$ look all those wonderful puns!!!!

C, T Phipps is killing it in life and in the written word. If you like Puns, bad humor, and all-around tomfoolery then you will love this series. With its madcap antics and the amazing cast of characters, Phipps paints a rich albeit sometimes insane world. Gary Karkofsky AKA merciless the villain without mercy is an anti-hero with a penchant for bad puns, pop culture references, and all-around hilarity. the supporting cast to Gary's league of supervillains is also perfect for this book. if you like humor and superheroes this is your jam. Sometimes we just want to watch the world burn and brother this is it. The story is excellent his world-building is great and the narration is superb. I give it ten out of ten Scott bakula's.

You can’t fail but to love these books!

Pure brilliance! The books have the feel that the stories have just fallen onto the page at a rate faster than thought; they’re just overflowing with action, Wit, sarcasm and brilliant story lines. I love the fact the characters are totally self aware of how ridiculous it all is.
Jeffrey does a brilliant job narrating these books, he’s perfectly suited to the style of writing and just bats the story and characters out of the park!
I don’t think I’ll ever tire of these books!!
This is my honest opinion on a free review copy.

Excellent series

CT Phipps writes across many genres but this is by far my favourite series of his that I've read / listened to. It's an over the top comic book story with the focus on a supervillain who keeps ending up doing good. It's proper laugh out loud funny.

Get it and enjoy yourself
