Story
Yes, George Carlin is here with more of what he did better than any other comic: uproarious observations, laser-targeted crankiness, linguistic legerdemain, and inspired weirdness. ("If the shoe fits, get another just like it." "When you sneeze, all the numbers in your head go up by one.") Napalm & Silly Putty is just what his fans have been waiting for—another generous helping of notions, nonsense, assertions, assumptions, mockery, merriment, silliness, sarcasm, and, to be sure, plenty of disturbing references and toxic alienation.

George's lighthearted routines and less topical issues complement his overwhelming timing in this classic album. Taken from his performance at the Beverly Theatre in Los Angeles in May 1986, George offers some of his hilarious examinations of "Losing Things" and "You're Lost": "That's the first thing that happens when you get to Heaven," he says. "They give you back everything you ever lost".

Story
In Dad is Fat, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan, who’s best known for his legendary riffs on Hot Pockets, bacon, manatees, and McDonald's, expresses all the joys and horrors of life with five young children - everything from cousins ("celebrities for little kids") to toddlers’ communication skills ("they always sound like they have traveled by horseback for hours to deliver important news"), to the eating habits of four-year-olds ("there is no difference between a four-year-old eating a taco and throwing a taco on the floor").

What The Daily Show is to evening news, The Colbert Report is to personality-driven pundit shows. Colbert brings his sarcastic charm to a half-hour report, tackling the important issues of the day and telling his guests why their opinions are just plain wrong. Stephen stands for "truthiness" and his American right to copyright that word and claim ownership of it. The author describes this as a simple audiobook from a simple mind: Stephen Colbert's.

Myrna, Leonie, and Chrissy meet every Thursday to sample fine cheeses, to reminisce about their former lives as professors, and lately, to muse about murder. Decades ago, a vicious cabal of male poets contrived—quite publicly and successfully—to undermine the writing career, confidence, and health of their dear friend Fern. Now, after Fern has taken a turn for the worse, her three old friends decide that it’s finally time to strike back—in secret, of course, since Fern is far too gentle to approve of a vendetta.

In one of Phil Mason's many revelations, you'll learn that Communist jets were two minutes away from opening fire on American planes during the Cuban missile crisis, when they had to turn back as they were running out of fuel. You'll discover that before the Battle of Waterloo, Napoleon's painful hemorrhoids prevented him from mounting his horse to survey the battlefield.

Don Winslow’s ensuing, entertaining yarn is by turns twisty, dark, and comical as we observe the delicate dance between the pursuer and the pursued.

Comedian George Carlin's definitive monologue was delivered on this 1972 album, his third, in the form of Seven Dirty Words You Can Never Say on Television. The FCC and Supreme Court held the routine as the epitome of tastelessness, threatening to yank the license of any station that dare play it over public airwaves. So you know it has to be funny. Story
Available for the first time in audio, Fulton Oursler's 1949 novel about the life of Jesus Christ was written with powerful simplicity and set against a rich historical background. Using a fictionalized narrative, Oursler takes events from the Gospels of the New Testament and adds imaginative dialogues and personalities to recreate the first century, while maintaining Biblical integrity. Library Journal called it "...as real and contemporary as a newspaper report."

Story
Millions of words of scholarship have been expended on the world's most famous author and his work. And yet a critical part of the puzzle, Shakespeare's library, is a mystery. For four centuries people have searched for it: in mansions, palaces, and libraries; in riverbeds, sheep pens, and partridge coops; and in the corridors of the mind. Yet no trace of the Bard's manuscripts, books, or letters has ever been found.

Story
In 1963, 30-year-old Friedman - who had recently quit his job as a Boston advertising executive and returned to his hometown of New York to become a theatrical producer - opened a coffee house for Broadway performers called the Improvisation. His goal? Simply to make a living, and if all went according to plan, to also make enough professional contacts to be able to mount his first Broadway show within a year's time. Later shortened to the Improv, its first West 44th Street location was in a seedy section of Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen.

I do like his humor and he delivers it well but from time to time his bad language seems too much. And at times he seems bent on insulting rather than joking.

Entry-Level Carlin
More of a "greatest hits" collection than anything new or original, "Napalm and Silly Putty" includes material dating all the way back to Carlin's legendary Carnegie Hall performance in 1981. This is not necessarily a bad thing, though. Considering that I was about ten years old when that concert footage aired on HBO, and yet I can STILL remember the jokes practically verbatim is a testament either to their brilliance or to the impressionableness of my mind back then. Either way, for Carlin fans, listening to this audiobook will be like slipping on a pair of warm, familiar gloves; for others it will be a good way for them to get acquainted with Carlin humor from the eighties all the way to the present. Those who are new to the crafter of The-Seven-Dirty-Words-You-Can't-Say-on-TV will encounter a comedian who loves analyzing social conventions almost as much as he does the English language, which he analyzes endlessly. The book is set up as a series of unrelated excerpts, delineated by quirky scraps of Seinfeldesque musical bumpers (which -- truthfully -- are kind of annoying). And there is no laugh track or audience reaction accompanying the material. What you get is George Carlin at your disposal for two hours or so, telling you jokes. Even if you have heard them before, it's worth another listen, multiple listens in fact.

Stupid, Insulting, and Ignorant
Ok, we all know this guy is a character but c'mon! I like comedy and I can handle a little vulgarity and stupidy. But the problem I have is when people who are good at what they do decide that they are also philosophers and political know-it-alls. He has about as much right trying to discuss politics as Ellen Degenerate does being a priest. So, if you can handle absolutely no respect for God, (or any kind of religion) hate America and are a wacko liberal then you might like this guy.
