Rigorous, Informative, Riveting — a great listen!

Has been the best read I’ve listened to during quarantine. Scientifically rigorous and riveting the whole way. Highly recommend!

Fantastic!

This is exactly what I want from a Tyson book! This is exactly what I want from a Cosmic Queries book!
Look, I'm an avid StarTalk fan. I'm also a big science fan, so a lot of this book was nothing new to me. Some of it was, but that's really not the point. It's the presentation! This book is written almost like a conversation. It isn't dry facts listed out about discoveries and the people who found them. Instead it's laid out like a story, filling you in on the facts. Wonderfully written! The audiobook has Tyson for bits of it, like his tweets pertaining to the chapter subject, the majority is read beautifully by Laura Fortgang. She needs more VO work!

Not worth it

A lot less Tyson and a whole lot of what sounds like a Siri or Google Assistant voice explaining things.

Conglomeration of Startalks Queries & other books

A good book, but if yo have watched/Listened to the Cosmic Queries of StarTalk, and also read a few of Dr. Neil DeGrasse Tyson's other books on astrophysics, then you will find a lot of redundancy. The performance was good, but there was one glaring point when the Lauren Fortang is stating Drakes Equation, and in her reading, she read "F1", instead of "FI" as part of the formula. It was jarring as I was following in my head. Good overall book, for non geeks, or geeks who want a decent grounding in the astrophysical evolution of our universe at an introductory level. .

Deeper insight to things I've learned from Neil

This was a great book, covers a lot of things that Neil has talked about. Goes a little more in depth, with a variety of different topics. What I got out of it was a reminder that nothing lasts forever, very humbling. Thank you Dr. Tyson, for inspiring and educating in the best way possible. for this I will keep looking up!

Very entertaining and informative book.

Wow, what a great book and the female narrator was even better. Loved every minutes of this book. Very often I get a request to explain certain topics in this book. I loved how they did it and will use their methods whenever I can. I purchased a digital Kindle copy for reference. It will be one that I listen to several times.

Better to read instead of listen to

I’m a big Neil deGrasse Tyson fan, and will listen to anything that he narrates as he is animated, enthusiastic, and entertaining to listen to. Unfortunately, he doesn’t narrate this whole book and instead half the chapters are narrated by someone who is almost impossible to tolerate listening to. The chapters that she narrates are unbearable; I pretty much just want to skip over them until deGrasse Tyson narrates again. She has a strange, slightly high-pitched and almost nasally sound that doesn’t make sense for this book.she completely ruins the listening experience.

Mind opening discussions and exciting topics

Disclaimer!
My review is subject to cultural bias as I am a fan of StarTalk.

I listen to StarTalk Cosmic Queries editions very often and I always end up sad and hungry for more at the end of the episode. The Cosmic Queries book is an excellent idea to extend those answers - however it still leaving me even hungrier for more.
The questions asked in this book make you wonder about our place in this universe and the possibilities of life in other planes. It also tackles some of the methods and assumptions used when researching for life in other parts of the universe - methods and assumptions that I think can be applied to any research in our lives.

I would end this now and leave it for you to explore this book and I hope there will be a sequel to this.

Maybe it’s because I’m English…

but Lauren Fortgang’s delivery renders this unlistenable to me. I really struggle to understand what she’s saying with the huge leaps in pitch

Dissapointing

I am really disappointed by this book. If you have any interest in cosmology or the universe you will unlikely learn anything new. The author repeats information and statements 3 or 4 times over and over, sometimes in the same chapter. Seems the purpose of the book was to advertise author's Twitter account as he quotes his own tweets several times in each chapter. Yup, you read it right. He actually put his tweets into the book. Unless you don't have any knowledge about cosmos and the universe, I can't recommend this book.

Strong (and Tall) voice of Science

In a world grappling with pandemic, anyone would think that people would be led by Science. No way....still there is vaccine hesitancy, squashing of the COVID rules and what not. In such a time, as Carl Sagan said, "Science is a candle in the dark". Who else can be a great ambassador of it other than Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Wonderful book. Great to hear but now I need to buy a physical one also to see nice photos.
We should all learn to ask right questions and try to seek answers to cosmic mysteries.
Finally - we all are ONE stardust !
