Publisher's Summary

While on a voyage in a small ship, Edward Prendick makes the mistake of sticking up for a deformed man that the sailors are tormenting. The result is that he is thrown off the ship when the man reaches his destination - an uncharted island. He is reluctantly rescued by the two scientists using the island for experiments. Prendick discovers that they are attempting to "humanize" various beasts and the hideous results of their experiments freely roam the island. Prendick's arrival upsets the delicate peace between them and the "animal-men" with catastrophic results.

So What If It's A Classic

For some reason Audible only offered one star for rating this book in all three categories. I enjoyed the book although I can't say that it was the most compelling of stories. It is written well it just did not hold my interest very well. I would call it a mediocre read.

Great book, but the narration was sub-par

What other book might you compare The Island of Dr. Moreau to and why?

Animal Farm, maybe (?)

How could the performance have been better?

I found the reader's voice to be very monotonous. I would suggest listening to the sample before downloading this.

Any additional comments?

Having said that, I really did enjoy this book. A friend of mine had read it and told me how much he liked it, so I came to Audible to check it out. It's dark and a little disturbing, but I found it fascinating. Also, with such a low price, I couldn't pass it up!
