Lima Barreto: underappreciated

The prejudice against Afro-Brazilians is not new. Lima Barreto is arguably among the immortals of the world literature. Yet, even today, Lima Barreto is not sufficiently appreciated in Brazil and elsewhere. His style is elegant, economic, and innovator, helping pave the road for the modernism in Brazil.
