For years, the third moon in the Alphane system was used as a psychiatric hospital. But when war broke out between Earth and the Alphanes, the hospital was left unguarded and the inmates set up their own society, made up of competing factions based on their particular mental illnesses. When Earth sends a delegation to take back the colony, they find enclaves of depressives, schizophrenics, paranoiacs, and others uniting to repel what they see as a foreign invasion. Meanwhile, back on Earth, CIA agent Chuck Rittersdorf and his wife, Mary, go through a bitter divorce, and Chuck loses everything. But when he is assigned to clandestinely control an android accompanying Mary to the Alphane moon, he sees an opportunity to get revenge.

Interesting premise, Fun story and superbly narrated!

Not PK's best. Not disorganized, just written.

This feels like Dick was being pushed to 'finish the damn thing already'. One might hope for more science or fiction or characters about whom one might care.

Classic Sci-Fi

Philip K. Dick's books are slightly dated with their view of the near to distant future, but the story is engaging and keeps you interested throughout. The narrator does a very good job as well.

Entertaining

If you like Phillip K Dick you’ll probably like this. Like a lot of Dicks work it kind of jumps the shark with quirky storytelling, but it’s a fun listen.

entertaining, dark comedy is how this story reached me. Much different from other PKD stories.

Creative Sci-Fi You'd Expect From Dick

Not a classic PKD novel, but has enough twist and turns merged with the creative sci-fi you'd expect from one of Dick's books.

The novel combines two separate stories that begin to converge over time in typical Dick style. First the clans that make up the Alphane Moon 3M2, the second a CIA workers messy divorce and struggles with life. I don't want to spoil the storyline as going in with nothing is far better for his works, especially with this novel.

Suffice to say this is a well written, imaginative novel that will make you smile at the various concepts developed.

David de Vries does a great job in narration and brings the human and alien voices to life.

A five star by itself. In comparison to other Philip K. Dick works; a seven out of ten.

Original but a little tedious

Despite being a little bloated and rambling, this exploration of mental illness is interesting and it is worthwhile for the character of Lord Running Clam. It is a little dated and PKD indulges a slightly disturbing and thoroughly sexist obsession with female characters' breasts.

Outstanding

Should be listened to by everyone. Phillip K Dick. What an absolute genius. Loved it.

Not his best work

i have to say, if it wasn't for the narrator, i wouldn't have been able to stomach this story.

I am a big fan of k. Dick and I've read most of his work, but I was somewhat disappointed with it. Specially because it spends very long time building the characters, but the end lacks any substance with respect of the story itself.
