Publisher's Summary

In a heartbeat, everything grinds to a halt. On Christmas Eve, the lights go out. Vehicles stop working. Communications break down. Reclusive former soldier Liam Coleman doesn't want to be anywhere near bustling downtown Chicago the day before Christmas. But his twin brother and his pregnant sister-in-law need him.

But mere minutes after leaving O'Hare, their car crashes, along with hundreds of other vehicles. When Liam's phone stops working, he begins to suspect something more sinister than a local power outage. But before he can react, the first plane falls from the sky.

When a super EMP takes down the nation's power grid, Liam knows it's time to bug out. He's prepared, but he never expected to be caught in the middle of Chicago as chaos erupts. With society collapsing before his very eyes, Liam will have to risk more than he ever thought possible to protect the ones he loves if it's not already too late.

Chaos Rising is a riveting post-apocalyptic EMP survival thriller set in the Edge of Collapse universe, a brand new series from best-selling author Kyla Stone. Perfect for fans of Jack Hunt, T.L. Payne, and Ryan Schow.

EMP in Chicago

I fell in love with Kyla Stone's writing while reading the Nuclear Dawn series. So, when I saw that she had written another series involving an EMP event, I knew that I had to give it a try!

Liam Coleman has reluctantly travelled from his remote hideaway in Michigan to visit his twin brother, Lincoln, for Christmas. Lincoln is suffering from severe PTSD and his pregnant wife, Jessa, has asked Liam to come and try to help. Minutes after they pick him up at O'Hare Airport, their car is involved in a huge crash, all cell phones are dead, and planes start falling from the sky.

This was a fast-paced, action filled short book with great descriptions of the turmoil that might be involved with an EMP event. Even though it was a fairly short read, I was quickly drawn in and really felt the emotions of the characters. I can't wait to continue this series and see what Ms. Stone has in store for her readers!

The narrator, Stacey Glemboski, does a great job and her performance really added a lot to my enjoyment of this book. Her pacing is perfect and her voices for the different characters were varied enough for the listener to know exactly who was talking. I was given the chance to listen to this book by the author/publisher and chose to review it.

Adrenalin all the way through

Captured me from the start, absolutely love Liam. Heard it in one go during a road trip. It is raw and realistic and a story that keeps running through your mind long after you have finished it.

Loved it

Excellent story. I'm a little disappointed that some of the characters just gave up so quickly. I understand that PTSD can be brutal but wow. Over all, this was well thought out and written. The scariest thing would be those planes dropping out of the sky. I will be recommending this book to my friends. Kyla Stone is quickly becoming my favorite author. Looking forward to this fantastic series.

What a way to spend Christmas Eve

Chaos Rising is a fast paced end of the world as we know it novella. Liam travels to Chicago to visit his twin brother and sister-in-law, only to be caught in an end of the world event. He must make tough decisions quickly. Stone packs a lot of great story information into this novella. Can't wait to read more. I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I also received a free audible and am voluntarily leaving my honest review of the narrator in addition. The narrator was pretty good with a nice cadence and having reasonable voices for each character.

Good story

I loved the story, though it’s shorter than what I am accustomed to. The characters are wonderful, and I hope this will become a new series. Chicago is a city I know well, and I could vision everything as it was happening. Thanks Kyla, well done!

Dealing with the fallout after an EMP...

Chaos Rising (An Edge of Collapse Prequel) by Kyla Stone and narrated by Stacey Glemboski is a good beginning to a new series and left me wanting to know more about the characters. Recommend if you are looking a new EMP short story, something new in the genre, or are a fan of Kyla’s work.

What’s it about? Twins, Lincoln and Liam, along with Jessa (Lincoln’s wife), deal with the fallout after an EMP. Without giving too much away since it’s a shorter story, there’s heartache and happiness. For those new to Kyla, she is great with world building and details.

The narrator, Stacey Glemboski, did a good job. She is easy to listen to and has a good pace.

Overall I recommend, 4 stars all around.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: death (multiple ways, not saying more due to spoilers), guns, mention of service in wars (Iraq/Afghanistan).

*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!

Loved it...I need more!

This is a great start to Kyla Stone’s new series. So easy to become immersed into the characters and the storyline. The pace and tension was just right and the narrator really brings the characters to life.

I am really looking forward to listening to the next instalment. It cannot be recorded soon enough.
