Publisher's Summary

Sinful, Louisiana, is always a hotbed of activity, and despite the steamy heat, August is no exception. Godzilla is terrorizing the town, looking for a home-cooked meal, and Gertie is worried someone will take the gator out before she can get him under control. Francine has a situation of her own at the café, where food is missing from inventory. And Celia is always up to no good.

But summer is almost over, which could mean huge changes for Fortune Redding. Her undercover time in Sinful has always been limited to three months, and that time is almost up. With Ahmad still on the loose, Fortune is forced to remain in hiding, but soon she'll have to move to another town and start all over with a new identity. And that's the last thing she wants to do. Determined to get her life back, Fortune decides to draw Ahmad out and end this once and for all. Can Fortune take down one of the most dangerous men in the world? And if she can, does she have a future in Sinful?

Good Story

Having read about Fortune and the folks from Sinful for years, I was excited to read about Fortune confronting the man she was hiding out from in Sinful. The story was great, although with a few eye rolling moments, but I would like to point out something to Ms Campbell, who read the story for Audible. In South Louisiana, the name "Hebert" is pronounced "A - bear" not "He - bert." Sorry to complain, but it was like nails on a chalkboard each time you said it. Otherwise , it was a great story, and I am anxious to hear Fortune's next steps.

I love this series! Please continue with more!

I have enjoyed every book of the Fortune series. Fun to listen to! Nothing offensive in language, sex or situations.
Cassandra Campbell is the perfect narrator for these books.

6 Stars!

Change of Fortune is book 11 in A Miss Fortune Mystery series. The series is set in Sinful, Louisiana, USA and follows Fortune, who is a CIA assassin in hiding, and old ladies Gertie and Ida Belle, who are lifelong Sinful residents and ex-spy war veterans, as they help solve a string of various crimes and murders.

This series is the first series of Cozy Mystery books that I have read. This is a new-to-me genre and I am really loving it. Once I listened to the first book, I couldn't stop. So far, I have been listening to all of the books back to back and I'm not quite ready to stop.

I recommend reading/listening to these books in order since each book builds upon the prior book's story and it makes it much more entertaining and enjoyable to go in order. However, if you choose to start with this book, there is a very brief introduction at the beginning that explains the series. This is the first of the books to do that.

There is humor throughout, but the first chapter was so funny, that I had tears from laughing. Change of Fortune has a little bit of everything and so much is happening. Gertie's pet alligator, Godzilla, is terrorizing the town in search for baked goods. Things have finally come to a head with the Ahmad situation and Fortune decides to offer herself up as bait in an attempt to end Ahmad and his threats once and for all. Amongst all of that, the ladies are trying to solve the mystery of missing food from Fancine's diner. Once again, Fortune teams up with Big and Little Hebert and their head bodyguard, Manny. We learn a bit more about them in this book too. We get more of Fortune's partner, Harrison, in this book and get to watch them working together. Harrison to Carter: "The woman sitting next to you is one of the best we have and have had for well over a decade. She's an awesome human being and a she's also the deadliest person I have ever known. If anyone can handle Ahmad, it's Fortune." I really like Harrison. I wish we could have had more of him throughout the series.

If you like books with a big dose of humor, this is the series for you. I have found myself laughing out loud too many times to count.

The same narrator reads for the whole series. She does a good job and I really like the fact that the character voices are consistent from book to book.

Great book!

A good escape. Keeps you wanting to turn pages. The only slightly negative I have is that I have lived in the South all my life and part of the time in South Louisiana and I have never heard anyone pronounce Fortune like the narrator. It is not pronounced like a hyphenated word "For-tune", it is more like " for- chun" . And Hebert is Long A-- "A- bear". I got over it and still enjoyed the book and performance. BUT a phone call or trip to NOLA to research the pronunciation would make the listening more enjoyable.

Really fun series

Do start at the beginning. Once you accept the opening premise, the whole series is a fun romp.

Really enjoyed the story as usual but as a Louisiana native I cringed every time the name Hebert was mispronounced!

love the story the narrator needs a lesson

this is one of my favorite books in this series however the woman doing the performance needs what she has needed for every book in the series, A PRONUNCIATION GUIDE!

Change of Fortune

As all of Jana's books this one does not disappoint. I love the Shetland humor that she writes with. Another best seller I. My opinion.

Where are the real Louisiana people?

I really like these books, especially the fun and friendship the ladies have. But what I can’t understand is where are the African-American people? If you’re talking about real Louisiana, half the population is African-American. Do none of them live in St. Paul? Is it segregated? I’m not getting it too well. That really needs to be fixed.

Ahmed Is Finally Taken Down (natch!)

A dual storyline culminating in Ahmed's demise. His actual end was so quick it happened in a flash.
Gertie and LilaBelle on top form, with Godzilla making a return. Celia, her underwear, and the usual Sinful bunch providing the grasp on reality.
With Ahmed gone, Carter and The Ladies want to know what Fortune's plans are. And so do we.

More please!!

Really love this series - it’s good, light-hearted, fun and perfect audiobook material!!

This book was maybe not the best in the series, but I did like that it developed her Big & Little relationship and that the conclusion (and title) hints at change ahead... so, I can’t wait to see what happens next!!

Does not disappoint

What made the experience of listening to Change of Fortune the most enjoyable?

Cassandra brings the characters to life so it feels like you are there watching their escapades .

What was one of the most memorable moments of Change of Fortune?

Knowing Fortune is now free to carry on with her life without looking over her shoulder 24/7 in case Ahmad had found her.

Which character – as performed by Cassandra Campbell – was your favourite?

I couldn’t even stop and choose just one character she does them all so well however I do have a soft spot for Gertie 😊

Any additional comments?

I can’t wait for the next book to see where Fortune goes from here.
I just love all Jana’s books 😊
